Match Thread: Port Vale v Stevenage

Fosse69

Recommended Posts

Difficult home debut for Clarke who no doubt is still assessing his team options. Stevenage hoping to build on a run of 1-0 away wins at Tranmere and Crawley, have 33 points as the Vale but played a game more.  Injuries always a concern and kept quiet, making the set-up difficult to anticipate, but Worrall ankle and Monty Covid effects are known worries.  An unbeaten run for Clarke likely to be the priority but hopefully a win possible prior to the visit of  Cambridge.

A time to build on the Orient display and see if we can secure three points.

Conlon by his own admission had a poor game and some of the possession and creativity went missing.

Let’s hope we have some good fortune and get the three points.

Hurst may be replaced unless he is needed to replace Worrall.

Never beat these at home I do not think so tuesday would be a good time to do so .

Team well its players for different games as we will probably be the team who has more possession we just have find a way to get the forwards or forward in on goal so in light of that with Stevenage absolutely superb defensively we are going have to play very well to obtain anything from the game .

Worrall going probably be out so is Amoo anywhere I do not think he was on the bench yesterday so for one is he fit enough .

Be tempted to put Conlon in a forward two with Guthrie in a high press first half hopefully then he can get on the ball and put Guthrie in undoubtedly if he puts lots in first half he will not be able maintain it all game so second half maybe young Swann can continue with high press with Rodney then .

Team well I'd go something like this

           Brown

Smith Mustapha Legge (or Crookes)

Gibbons                      Montano

            Joyce  Oyeleke (or Taylor )

                     Conlon

              Guthrie Rodney

Gibbons and Montano can both put decent delivery in so yes it means young hurst who I like misses out Rodney can be the out ball roaming on all attacking positions, Conlon is suited to a free role and high press ,the 3 centre halfs to win everything and be a massive threat from set pieces we hope .

That's the team I'd go for you do not need wingers if you have the quality of Gibbo and Monty playing  the right and left side marauders .

A six pointer for sure .

Massive game this is, and a win would be huge for us. I think that Clarke will set up to win, and we might see Monty back in the starting 11. Worrall be big a big miss if injured. Can we accomodate Taylor, who is a goal threat?

2-1 win with a tough game to come against the leaders at the weekend.

Stevenage have won 3 of there last 4 away games. We have failed to beat stevenage at home in a league game our only home victory against them was in the fa cup.

They have signed a few good players recently norris a decent striker from Colchester and lines who we all know can be a good player.

We could do with a win but a draw wouldn't be a bad result. If worral has an ankle injury then I cant see him playing.

Tough few games after this so need a win really.

Cambridge H
Salford A
Cheltenham A
Oldham H (their away form is outstanding)
Bolton H

Tricky 5 games although ironically in the reverse fixtures we picked up 4 wins and a loss!

I'm not saying we will beat Cambridge but we do have a good record at vale Park against them.

Never beaten us at VP with 1 draw.

They beat us during Gannon's reign as manager. Griff scored an own goal from about 30 yards. They also beat us on a Good Friday when Guthrie played a blinder against us.

We've had a few draws as well, the one last season, the 2-2 draw in the snow when we came back from 2-0 down, another 2-2 draw just before Christmas in 2013, the FA cup match in 2009 when they were still non-league...
