Match Thread: Port Vale v Newport County

Time to give a start to any of our latest recruits ? Just hoping that Gibbon`s illness has cleared up. New manager in place or watching from the stands?
Newport completed a double over Grimsby (1-0) with a debut goal for on loan Maynard, after failing to win any of the previous 8 games since they won at Grimsby 2-0,  in spite of Grimsby recruiting 8 players in the same period. Newport playing with 10 men as with 3 of their previous 4 games, bit of a rough team or unlucky with their refs.  So what can we expect? Another tough game is likely.  Settle for 1-0 as with their first visit to Vale Park.

Newport are a horrible team. And they find a way to get results, mainly with late goals as we found to our cost.

This will sound double Dutch but I personally don't think they are much cop.

If we are on it we can beat them, I anticipate a pretty horrible stop start game. They are not pretty but effective.

I'll take a draw though.

I know that many on here have mentioned trying the 532 or 352 system BUT at home (and even away) this may be the way to go. For these reasons:

1. 433 isolates the forward and this has been proven to be the case game after game. This can result in a lack of goals/chances. (Unless we play an absolute shambles like Southend or Grimsby)

2. 442 - we don’t have the central midfielders for this formation. We’ll end up getting over run. (Need a midfield general for this)

3. Play to your strengths. We need 2 strikers up front to create chances/goals. The midfield in a 2 in middle can’t dominate a game, so play 3 in the middle. In theory, having 5 across the back should sure up the defence a bit more. As long as they get coached competently.

I don’t know why the likes of Tranmere and Mansfield are starting to turn around their seasons but maybe the new managers have looked at what they’ve got and simply played to their strengths. Morecambe are another possible example.

So:

                                    Brown

Gibbo.   Muzzy.        Smith.         Bris/Crookes.      Monty

                                Manny

                   Taylor.              Conlon

                 Guthrie.          Rodney

That lad who played in the 4-3 at Walsall now plays for these . Scrimshaw was it ?

Tore Smith and Legge a new one that day

All he did was very simple, make runs in behind them which is our weakness at centre half.
