Joyce and Smith

Both of these come in for a lot of stick on OVF, but watching week after week I see them running about putting out other people’s fires. Sometimes that drags them out of position, but most of the time they are covering up for incompetence.

in Smith’s case, he has to contend with a goalkeeper who won’t come off his line, as well as the the chaos caused by the rest of the back 4.

For Quite a few of our squad, getting the ball at their feet is a crisis.

Joyce and Smith both try to be constructive, rather than just booting away possession. I don’t think they are part of the problem.

Neither have pace and Smith fitness has dropped since re-signing this season. Last season when he thought he was leaving he was a lot fitter.

We have a fitness issue all over the park. Never known a club to have so many hamstring injuries. It’s constant theme with us.

My view is that Smith isn't hitting the heights of last season, maybe lacking a bit of confidence.  Joyce, normally a Steady Eddie type, not at his best today.  If you want to dig out players you could name several who Joyce and Smith were better than today.  How about Rodney, he was hopeless.

How even the bloody back up goalkeeper ends up with a hamstring injury I don't know

Joyce should go end of contract. Legs have gone doesn't have enough pace to close down the space quick enough. Keeps things ticking over well with simple passes but his play is often too slow and not positive enough. Greater physical presence required for me in this position.

Smith has had is ups and downs but I would keep him. When you look at his play he always scraps well, is good in the air despite his height and doesn't get beat very often one on one situations. I think he has looked poorer this season let down by his defensive partners. Smith is still one of the better CB's in this league.

Indeed, but it goes without saying for Mills and Crookes, normal.  Guthrie I felt a bit of sympathy for.  Terrible service, hoof ball, and up against 2 good centre backs.  A fit Tom Pope would have faired no better in those circumstances.  We played with 2 wide men in Wozz and Dave who didn't beat their man once that I can remember.  First half Dave was pitted against Khan, an attacking midfielder, and made him look like Cafu.
