England have been totally outplayed in this match but the standard of umpiring has been abysmal and the state of the pitch is a joke. It shouldn't have been turning like it was from day 1 and have puffs of dust coming up that's the kind of thing you see on a 4th or 5th day pitch.

Why not? They are at home and will try to take every advantage they can get, the same as we do when playing at home in our conditions. They simply have far better, more consistent spinners than we do. Picking Moeen Ali is almost a crime. We're also known for collapses. Our openers are shocking and have been generally since Cook and Strauss.

There's something in the laws of the game about the pitches not meant be behaving and moved about like they are from day 1. Alot of the time in England the pitches behave depending on what the weather is like if its hot and sunny it will be flat and offer nothing untill it cracks up in the last 2 days or if its cold and cloudy then the ball will swing all over the place.

There's no question about India having better spinners ive already commented a couple of days ago saying ali shouldn't be playing. We should never have rested Anderson, bess, butler and only made changes if there's injuries like there was to archer and Crawley.

Fair enough.

And yeah, we definitely shat the bed with the team selection. India were always going to come back hard in this game. Once they've won this game in the next day or two their tails will be right up going into the third test.

When a Test Match could be over inside of 3 days it usually is an indication of a dodgy pitch, an unequal contest between bat and ball. That Chennai track is just brutal, how anyone could bat for any length of time on it let alone make 161 is incredible and/or astonishing or extremely lucky.

Yep their spinners are better than ours and have more experience of these conditions and England's first 3 batsmen look vunerable and lacking in confidence but there should be a fairer contest between bat and ball in a test match.

It was a good toss to win.

Positives for England are Foakes and Stone, Stone in particular looks very tasty. You never know but something remarkable has to happen for England to get anything out of this match.

Great viewing though

Sounds a bit sour grapes moaning about the pitch. India have done alright on it. The toss is always massive on the sub continent.

Maybe putting our best team out would help? A bit. Fair do's to them.  They are a very good team, particularly at home. But the dodgy umpiring was annoying. They don't need that.

Let's hope the body at least twitches before we move on.... at 1-1

Not sour grapes. There’s preparing a pitch that helps the home side and there’s this. Not good for cricket this wicket. Game probably won’t get past lunch on day 3. Umpiring was either appalling or bordering on blatant cheating. Agree re our 11. Find it really frustrating that we’re resting key players against possibly the strongest side in the world. When will we actually pick our strongest 11?

Vs Aus I guess. I don't get this obsession with the Ashes. I'd like us to beat India in India. There is a peculiar obsession with the Ashes. We've got no chance over there.

I dont mind losing to a very good team in their own back yard but the pitch is scandalous... and how they have got away with moving the groundsman from the first test "aside" and the Indian management team taking control of pitch preparation for this test is beyond me.

Wheres the next test at ? I bet the groundsman is already under pressure to produce another one of these wickets.
