New squad list

Dunno but both Fitzpatrick and Guthrie have played for England C so not sure why they'd be classed as foreigners. What is the significance of homegrown players? Can't imagine it matters with only two not being classed as homegrown.
Spent 3 years in an English Academy/Youth Development set up. Usually a restriction on using foreign teenagers in squads. Not that we are in that category yet.

According to Wiki the Football Association considers Jersey to be like a County FA so I'm not sure why Guthrie isn't home grown.

Not part of England or the UK , except for football. A self governing attachment to the sovereign.

33.8  Home Grown Players. Each Club shall be required to nominate a minimum of seven Home Grown Players on their Team Sheet of Players for all League Competition Matches (including Play Off Matches).

Guidance

Carabao Cup, EFL Trophy and FA Cup matches are exempt from the Home Grown quota.

33.9  ‘Home Grown Player’ shall mean a Player who irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with:-

33.9.1  his current Club; and/or

33.9.2  a Club and/or any other football club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales,

for a period, continuous or not of three Seasons or 36 months prior to his 21 birthday (or the end of the Season during which he turns 21). For the purposes of this definition of Home Grown Player only, a Season will be deemed to commence for all Clubs on the same date as the date on which the Summer Transfer Window in that Season closes for Clubs in Leagues One and Two, and expire on the date of the final League Match of the Season.

33.10  For the purposes of Regulation 33.9.2, but not otherwise, a Player who was at all times registered with a Club (or club) affiliated to the Football Association of Wales shall be treated as having been registered with a Club (or club) affiliated to The Football Association, and vice versa.

Still can't figure out what Fitzpatrick isn't considered homegrown. Even Guthrie spent three seasons playing in England before he was 21 so maybe the club's just being cautious in not stating they're homegrown.

Anyway I found that interview, which was interesting. He was semi-pro all the way until wishing with us last year.

"On 25 August 2020, you moved from Macclesfield Town FC to Port Vale FC. Why did you chose for Port Vale ?

I initially asked the manager if I could come in to train and get fit. I have worked with the gaffer before and he was happy to help me out. After a couple weeks, I was then made an offer to stay."

That was our recruitment policy so hard to disagree with Flitcroft that our recruitment needed a complete overhaul.

Thanks for that, It  would appear that Guthie didn`t quite spend 3 years in England after joining Accrington in 2011, before he was 21. or someone got their sums wrong.

Seen as he moved clubs a few times maybe he was only one or two months off the 36 months requirement

Completely agree. I don't think these are bad players. But they can not do one up top. How often do our forward line scare the oppo?  And yet the oppo always seem to have a player that scares the pants off our defense?

Woody has done alright, But he is a poor man's Pope. Pope is the only player we have up front who actually bothers other teams.

And I know we can't rely on him any longer.

We are a powder puff team at this  moment. Very easily beaten.

Let us hope that gets sorted. I don't know how. Over to you Mr Clarke.

Guthrie is a steady league 2 striker, 10+ league goals for 3 consecutive seasons. Have to pay a lot of money for a better striker than that at our level. He is still young enough to have a few good seasons in him and develop but isn't really expensive because he is young and has "potential"

Matter of fitting somebody else`s jigsaw together until May. Could thrive who knows.

Listening to the interview, how can we have a squad of over 30? Are there 5-6 other youth players training with the squad as well? And why oh why, do we always end up with these NFL size squads…

Think that’s why we’ve changed the football structure so hopefully going forward we will have better recruitment so this won’t be an issue.

Interesting comments around the squad from Clarke - better than Walsall, biggest he has had to work with, squad only set-up to play one way. Will need to show they are adaptable going forward as he will tweak it!

Even more interesting he is also assessing the coaching staff as well if they are upto the job.

Another excellent press conference with Clarke.

You really don’t have to pay a lot of money to get a 10+ goals a season striker at this level. Not even close.
