Match Thread: Scunthorpe United v Port Vale

Really want to see 2 up front tomorrow. The problem IMO is that I don’t think we have the centre midfielders to play 442. The 2, for me, who might be able to dominate and control a game in CM are Conlon and Manni together. Any combination of the other partnerships can’t.

Therefore, leaves a 442 diamond or 352. Can’t see either of these being used, even though we probably have the players for both.

So, an Askey 433 it’ll be then. Like this:

Brown

Mills   Smith   Bris   Fitz

           Joyce

    Taylor      Conlon

Wozza    Guthrie     Hurst

When fully fit would go:

Brown

Gibbo   New CB  Bris   Monty

Wozza  Manni  Conlon  Hurst

        Guthrie   Rodney/Cullen

I'm with you I would like to see us employ 442. Its a tight pitch up there so even if we are outnumbered in midfield the wide players should be able to tuck in enough to cover the spaces.

I disagree with the midfield though. I do think Conlon and Taylor have enough energy and are good enough to play as a two. Conlon sitting in pulling the strings, with Taylor the box to box man.

Assuming we are still struggling with the injuries players I would go

Brown

Gibbo Brisley Smith Crookes

Wozza Taylor Conlon Hurst

Cullen Guthrie

Every time we have a game, my initial thoughts are ‘this will be the game where we finally find our form’ and as a lot of fans, feel optimistic.

Unfortunately, I’m still waiting and even though my heart says we’ll win, my head says a defeat. But not just simply a defeat, another defeat in the guise of those under Askey.

I can’t take another lacklustre performance. Am going to say a prayer asking for positive changes to be made for tomorrow’s match and on going. 🙏 2 up front with a more direct style.

Know exactly what you mean just hope they dont throw the kitchen sink at us from the off and wer'e on the backfoot and give a yet another gutless performance.

I have to admit I have no idea who’s available so don’t know what my team would be. Maybe:

               Brown

Gibbo-Brisley-Crookes-Monty

               Joyce
  Worrall-Taylor-Conlon

       Guthrie-Cullen

Think I’d go 4-1-3-2 and drop a winger so have a narrower midfield to stop us getting swamped and have the full backs push on, so we’re almost 3-5-2 in possession.

Scunthorpe is one of those trips you dread. As from the League Cup win with Mills and Robinson’s goals (!!!) I can’t remember anything positive about our trips there.

I cannot for the life of me getting anything if we play like Saturday, but expect another narrow and frustrating 1-0 defeat.

Spot on!I optimistically thought 9 points were possible from the 3 fixtures ,starting with Walsall. How wrong I've been,as we'll be lucky to get 1 point with this set of players and the system we play.A massive effort is needed from the players ,who need reminding how lucky they are to be in work!!

Seriously depressed about where we are at as a club at the moment

The league table makes for sorry viewing that's for sure.  However, it may cheer you up to know that off the field the club is not in a bad place, despite some talk suggesting the opposite.

I’d like to see us go 352. Wanted us to go with it recently and now Monty and gibbo are back it could be useful. Gives us more control in midfield than 442 would and for me suits us. Had enough of Joyce, wouldn’t have him near the 11. Also feel mills and rcg would be better suited as well. Id be very tempted to give young Bailey a go up top with Guthrie, Cullen Dosent score away from home and if the lad is so highly rated, let’s give him a go.

brown.
gibbo. Smith. New cb. Brisley. Monty.
Taylor. Conlon. Worrall.
guthrie. Cullen.

So I am reading this morning as I awaken that none of the players like Sinclair, as a long term follower and many matches attended supporter of Port Vale I find that quite disturbing as I thought they were under performing because they all fell out with Askey .

To read this on the morning of a must win game is very poor ,as i believe the person they all like Danny Pugh is still in isolation ,so please someone other than the person they allegedly do not like take the team talk before the game tonight not Sinclair.

Footballers are a different set of rules than ordinary working folk most folk I know do not like there manager or boss or interim coach but haven't got please our fanbase these players have.

The pressure is on they have to deliver for the fans themselves not Frank Sinclair or Danny Pugh let's hope our support are not the victims of deliberate losses to prove there point because for one they getting there point across by sending Vale into non league will not be forgotten .

So deliver playersand do for the supporters stop taking it out on us because we cannot be there give you hell which we would be doing .
