I'm seeing a lot of flak directed towards Carol recently over her apparent inability to sort this mess out.

One person I've never had any confidence in during his LONG time here is Colin Garlick.

What does he do? When has he come out and informed us of the long term strategy for Port Vale and given us hope. I've seen more life at the morgue.

He's the Chief Executive, the CEO, whatever you want to call him. He is the one that should be directing football operations. He should be making big decisions. He should be driving the club forward.

Instead, he hides away in the background, overseeing failure after failure. All the while as we watch 'smaller' clubs like Crewe, Rochdale, Accrington, Cheltenham, Morecambe etc leap ahead of us.

He joined in 2016! We have gone BACKWARDS during his tenure. We were in L1 when he arrived!

Michael Brown, Neil Aspin, John Askey. These are the manager's employed under his reign. And if the owners have the final say on managers then why is he on the payroll?

Carol has already said she's taking advice from him about our next manager. And I'm 99.9% certain that will be Danny Pugh. He's supposed to be our 'football expert'! Christ!

We talk about change being needed, let's leave Carol alone and focus on who SHOULD be running the club.

this guys was put in place amongst the shambles years ago, never had any faith and never will

So who else are we going to blame next?  It was Askey's fault.  It's Carol's fault.  It's Pugh's fault.  It's Carol's lad's fault?  Now it's Colin Garlick's fault???  Bloody hell this is crazy.
Couldn't agree more. Everyone is desperate to point the figure. It won't be long before Speedy or the owners are the next target. People actually admit they don't know what he does but think he should be sacked. You couldnt make it up.

Yes it is, but I’d argue it’s equally crazy to be coming towards the end of a transfer window without a permanent manager with us in absolute free fall.
How do you know the owners have not said we will stick with Pugh unless someone comes in for less money. From what I know, those obvious replacements want more than Askey was on and we have already lost £1million due to Lockdown.

With 7 days left of January, it seems we will not be bringing in a proper manager now.

I wonder if there was ever a plan from Sleepy Colin or Askey's sacking was very much knee-jerk for them, ie they weren't going to sack him but bowed to supported pressure and now haven't got a clue what to do.

Either way, if Sleepy Colin is driving the club forward with his planning, foresight and strategy then we may as well give up now.

Managers can come in at any time. Players mainly in the Summer. A Centre Back in January would be welcome.

It is a very fair point. He seems to have lots of influence and no accountability. It is also true that he supported the appointment of duff managers.

In the later Smurfwaite era, when he had pretty much given up on the club, Garlick was the main public face of the club.

Did he do well at that...well we can all answer that!

Not his fault however. He has no real track record of any success and what we really need is a board with football business nous. I miss Wiles, some of his ideas at the time were genuinely dynamic (the Ticketmaster fiasco although flawed was a refreshing “big” idea to move the club forward and the main legacy for buying tickets at home )

I'm sorry folks, it's not unfair to at least be asking questions of Colin Garlick considering this is how the club announced his job role only 12 months ago:

https://www.port-vale.co.uk/news/2020/january/club-statement/

Quote

Colin Garlick, as Chief Executive Officer, will continue driving forward the football side of the business.

If he's described as the CEO and is 'driving forward the football side of the business', then surely, if the football side of the business is in chaos, questions have to be asked at the very least?

I know some say he operates as a club secretary and laying blame at his door is unfair, but a) why release this statement saying he's the CEO who drives the football side, and b) why not appoint someone who will drive the football side, considering Carol is new to the industry? You can't have your cake and eat it; or, alternatively, you can't be called a CEO and tasked with driving the football side, but then have no agency over football things when football things go awry.

The personal comments/nicknames are uncalled for, but I cannot disagree with the core issue of asking questions as to the involvement of the CEO who 'will continue to drive forward the football side of the business', when the football side of the business is in such a chaotic state.

There have been other appointments at the club since that statement was made.  I don't recall anyone questioning Garlick's role last year when we did well?   Also, Garlick doesn't pick the team, pick the tactics or scout the players.
But as CEO, he picks the managers and has a say in our recruitment strategy.

I'm failing to understand your defence of him. What is it based on? Do you know him personally?

Do you think he's done a good job in the 4 years he's been here? CEOs don't come cheap. Has he justified his salary?

Why don't we ever hear from him?
