Let them off then. Let them go play a bit now for a season. Then when they arent happy they can just stop again.

Sound.

I appreciate it's not all. But the majority have a lot to answer for in my opinion.

We'll never know whether it was the majority or a few. I'm just urging caution before Vale fans start detesting Vale players with such ease. Can create a horrendous atmosphere.

All I'm saying is it's not particularly wise, as a Vale fan, to decide to hate a vast proportion of the current playing squad without concrete evidence that they've done something wrong.

It's clear McKirdy is a wrong'un, as Pugh's quickly de-registered him - I agree that he should never be welcome at Port Vale again.

I just have a hard time with the view that ostensibly decent lads like Brown, Conlon, Smith, Joyce, Legge, Burgess etc are snakes who don't care without evidence. They've all been pretty exemplary for us up to this point. For all his faults, accusing Tom Pope of not caring about Vale is wrong.

Surprised about the comment regarding players phoning her to apologise and feel it would’ve been better kept in house.  My response to those players would be “Actions speak louder than words”.

My response would of been

Thanks for the info , at the end of the season you can look for pastures new you disgrace

I take your point. This whole episode has left a sour taste in my mouth. I dont care if you dont like your boss, you have the professionalism to get your head down and do your job. Absolutely no excuse for the last couple of months.

Some players clearly were putting a shift in.

Worrall, Montano, Rodney, Conlon, Fitzpatrick, Legge, Brown and Rodney certainly gave it their best in most games. Losing 3 of them over Christmas was not good.

Any player who has apologised for not giving 100% should 100% never get another contract at the club.

Completely fair. Performances of the last few weeks have been atrocious, and it's left a serious doubt in my mind about the future of some players beyond this season.

As you say, I think the majority of players were trying - just many were out of form, or not in the squad, or being mismanaged slightly, or getting into a groove of conceding late, or in one case or two, declining with age.

Undoubtedly there are a few in there who want shipping off pronto, but I don't personally think it was all of them. I have nothing to support this, though.

I will say, the consensus on social media seems to support the prevalent view on here - that Carol's comments are worrying and suggest problems about player commitment, which has settled down now their mate has been appointed (only repeating what I'm reading).

I think Carol may regret that comment; sounded good in her head but has come out as something completely different.

My view is that if they string some wins together and put this entire mess behind us then, sure, it's soured a fan-squad relationship a bit, but we'll move on.

What word can we use for them not putting in a shift for the fans and manager for some time then?

Footballers... happens up and down the country I’m afraid.

One man was paid to keep them motivated, interested and willing to follow his instructions. I respect John and thank him for what he did for the vale but on that front he failed. There is no shame in it, it’s bloody hard... but we shouldn’t pay him to keep failing.

I'll be honest - with Carol being fairly open about probably sticking with Pugh, and the 'players phonecall' thing, she might regret being so candid at such a volatile time for the club. I respect her for it, but it isn't playing very well with the always reasonable takes of Twitter (which is markedly more measured than that 'Wonder of Vale' facebook affair).

Fans are jumping on her comments about 'no timeframe' and the players ringing, and she/the players are getting stick (cheap option etc etc). Emotions are still high, and one win seemingly hasn't altered that.

I think the wisest thing now is to bunker down and win some games of football. Been far too much discourse surrounding the club since November. I'll always back Carol being open via professional channels, but other fans won't.

Maybe Carol could have chosen her words it better (she came across a bit flustered) but certain individuals letting the side down isn't exactly news. I'm surprised they felt the need to apologise because I don't think they're genuinely that sorry.

Sadly in a squad of 22 only 11 end up being first choice. Keeping the other 11 happy, who feel they should be first choice isn't easy. Particularly if some are experienced professionals. Cullen, Pope, Whitehead, Robinson, Brisley all fall into that category. I suspect it was only 2 or 3 players but that is enough to cause problems.

I don't know anything about the current issues but I know a lot about what was going on in the Foyle/ Sinnott era and a few people with a issue at a club can cause big problems. There was also a lot going on behind the scenes when Aspin was in charge; not solely the responsibility of Smurthwaite.

Blakemen pushed her tonight - was surprising.

I think it would have been best to wait until we'd won a few games before being so open in her desire to 'focus on the season with Danny'. I don't entirely disagree with her but many fans do. Probably a bit hasty to say that after 1 win against a very poor side.

That Facebook wonder of vale site was absolutely mental last time I was on there

I assume it’s still the same
