I suspect a lot of folk on here would have had a fit when Rudgie was appointed - been part of the failure, no experience, dreadful mistake.

I agree with the overarching message Jean but Rudge was one in a million. It's unlikely that the next John Rudge has been under our noses.

Not one in a million surely. Eddie Howe, Bob Paisley just off the top of me head!!

Only Vale fans could somehow try to justify appointing someone like Danny Pugh and it making any sense. The club almost deserves to go nowhere.

Nobody is trying to justify Pugh becoming manager.  He’s caretaker, we need to arrest this slide and win some points urgently, so I hope he can do just that.

With regards him becoming manager, it’s results that will justify his chances of earning the job, not the opinion of the fans on this forum.  He will have to earn the right to stay in the job in the very short term.  If he has a bit of success it gives the club some breathing space to look for a long term appointment and some points on the board to boot.  If he can turn the team around straight away then you could argue he’s earned the right to stay in the role.  You’d rather we wade straight in and pick some name from a list of managers you’ve heard of, which is fine, but there’s absolutely no way you, or anyone, can guarantee that your choice will be a success in the short term let alone take us somewhere longer term.

Is it possible that Danny Pugh's connections with Stoke are the reason he is given a hard time by some of the muppets on here?... Fooking pathetic!!

No, I think it's an overall genuine weariness of having managers without prior EFL experience appointed.

I personally aren't fussed if they're experienced or not, but I can understand people wanting a manager with EFL success being appointed for the first time since 2014. It's obviously nothing to do with Pugh's short and inglorious spell at Stoke.

If Pugh does well as caretaker he should be considered, I don’t see why we wouldn’t. Why couldn’t he do what the likes of the Cheltenham boss has done?

See the podcast suggests talk Micky has been in touch.

That’s like that ex you still miss but know it might not be the same again.

Nothing to do with Stoke- I think of him more as an ex Leeds player to be honest. Danny Pugh is a cheap appointment, simple as that. The club are clearly going to give him every chance possible to get the job. That much is pretty clear.

My problem with Pugh is during his time at Vale I associated him with losing. In a losing team as a player and as a coach. Different mentality needed which a complete outsider would be bring.

Yeah, heard that.

I agree with the lads that Micky is best left in the past. He took Tranmere down after leaving us. It would be a shame for him to come back and ruin his record here.

If we're desperate for a 6 month survival man I guess I could rationalise it, but I wouldn't want to see him next season.

He only played 60 odd games for them. Didn't stop Dicko doing well here .

He's not being given a hard time, people ( and I'm one of them) are undoubtedly scared and wary after the Michael Brown debacle.

There's nothing to say he can't be a roaring success. His lard connection is nothing to do with people's reluctance to accept him

We can't judge someone on a few games. How many times do we sides sack a manager and then for a few games they suddenly do well, or a lot better, regardless of who's in charge? I couldn't care less if we win our next two or three games with Pugh in charge. His appointment would be the cheap option, pure and simple. If we're going to get someone in just until the end of the season and then see where we're at we may as well have just stuck with Askey. As bad as it was we wouldn't have been bad enough to go down once players returned from injury.

If we got for experience we are limited for options.

Cowley unrealistic people say

Flitcroft is a mixed bag, failed to take money bags Mansfield up.

Grayson hasn’t done much in his last few appointments.

Micky Adams I’d take and he’d sort fitness issues and organisation out but is he long term now?

Derek Adams maybe? Depends on compo?
