Next Manager

Good interviews from Carol and DF.

A few things came to light from these, and the reactions on here.

Firstly - too many people have too much to say about other people's business and money! "We can't afford..." "There's not enough cash..." "Why not pool the two jobs..." Utter utter <ovf censored> - if there wasn't the money there for DF AND a new Manager, it wouldn't be happening!

Refreshing honesty from Carol, for acknowledging she doesn't have the background knowledge of the workings o a football club - and for taking steps to rectify that! We clearly need Colin Garlick - it's a legal part of running a football club to have someone doing the admin, and compliance especially with coronavirus having its own regulations to adhere to.

What was also apparent is that DF was there for the Manager's job...but, in the extra 3 hours of conversation with Carol, he seemed to have identified so many aspects where the club was lacking that Manager morphed into DoF. Equally clearly, these were too extensive for just a Manager to sort out, along with running the teams. So one of DFs first tasks will be to find someone he considers to be a good fit as Manager, drawing on his 30 years of experience in the game. For those still confused - Danny Pugh is NOT the Manager...another of DFs roles is to try to develop DP into a Manager, as he has expressed the interest in. No bad thing on Pugh's wanting to progress...no bad thing having a DoF who can help him to achieve this.

So, when we get a Manager in place, he will assess the squad - which DF will have already done - and be able to say "I need a Left back who's comfortable in getting forward; I need a CH who's a strong header, and a leader; and a DM who can pass forward."...and that's all he needs to do, in theory. The DoF will be aware of budget limits and will...should...already have a list of possibles when coming up to a transfer window. Thus taking a huge weight off the Manager, and allowing him to manage!

Excited by this, and looking forward to the Manager our DoF believes to be the best for the vacancy. It will NOT be Danny Pugh!!

Welcome to Vale Park Dave (although I thought you were Gary - but that's another story!)

CEO's don't do paperwork LOL!

Somebody has to - otherwise you end up blaming the bloody fax machine...again! There's a bit more to "paperwork", especially with having to comply with salary cap restrictions. You don't get the tea boy to do it!

I got the impression DF already had an idea of how badly run we've been, over the years? But, in conversation, he seemed to be pointing out even more than Carol must have know? I thought they were both immensely positive videos.

Another regular happy clapper cretin that strangely mentions Liverpool in a Port Vale thread. So original.

You were throwing your toys out of the pram klippity style didn't think it was fair you being dug out.

I'm a Port Vale fan. I follow Liverpool in that I like to see them do well. I wasn't absolutely elated when they won the league last season and I'm hardly gutted and losing sleep that they look like Hamilton Academicals right now. You want to disagree with me, fine. Most do here. You want to get into a bit of a slagging match I'm all for it. But people bringing Liverpool into it like it actually upsets me is just cringe. 😄

Is this a wind up?

Your take on someone "driving forward the football side of the business" is that they somehow look after "off the field" football activities. What does that even mean?!

CEO's don't do paperwork LOL!

The only one on a wind up is you.  "Paperwork" figuratively speaking.  Much of what Garlick is responsible for will be the old fashoned club secretary role, he doesn't pick the team, set training regimes.  Have you ever been involved with football?  Even at pub level as a basic there are league meetings to discuss matters other than the playing staff.  There are obligations to fulfill other than turning up with a squad of players on a Saturday.  Flitcroft will assume all his players are eligible to play, that is Garlicks job.  How difficult can this be to understand?

To quote from Flitcroft in todays rag, " I got drawn to Carol and the vision and that was backed up then by Col Garlick who I had worked with previously and had a fantastic relationship with. He is someone I highly regard and respect, not only as football person, but being really honest and transparent and saying it how it is."

So in your world this means he'll be letting Colin pick the team.
