Massive decision now for Carol, maybe she hoped Pugh could stabilise everything but that hasn't happened, you get what you pay for manager wise but this decision could cost her a lot if she gets it wrong

Keith Hill has done a cracking job at Tranmere so far......... if only

Exactly. To get the equivalent of Hill will not be cheap. But the alternative is worrying

Tranmere have had huge external investment in the last couple of seasons - somewhere in the region of £3million.  We on the other hand, have had a constant drain on resources because of the need to pay off our former owner.  That's how they can afford the likes of Keith Hill and we can't at the moment.

The cost of not appointing a decent manager could be far greater...

Understandable - Mr Creosote is still shafting this club and holding it back, long after he scarpered with trousers-full of cash (around his ankles!)

I just hope he has that "waffer-thin mint" one day! 🙄

What’s a decent manager?

And what can we afford, bearing in mind that JA on £90+k?

How do you know Askey's salary?  And who knows what a decent manager is?

One thing Carol needs to do though, is to forget her scruples and consider releasing Pugh and Sinclair if they are preventing anyone accepting the job.

I wondered if there was perhaps a stipulation for any new manager that Pugh stays on the coaching staff (either as 1st team coach, or possibly even as the assistant?) - as you suggest, there shouldn't be, it should be up to the new manager to decide on his backroom staff (finances and budget permitting, of course).

Reading between the lines it looks to me like the wage demands of those at the top of the list may be scuppering their chances, or maybe the fact they want their own backroom team with added costs that come with that

Probably very likely they do want their own backroom team, which would mean the deserved dole queue for jokers Pugh and Sinclair. That’s the probably the biggest problem as they may need paying up.

Pugh and Sinclair are part of a failed Ashley era. Carol thinks they are wonderful, but nobody would sack Askey and think the answer lies in his support staff?

Likewise no new manager of any credibility will gladly work with the old guard as they want things to change and they won’t do so easily with failures hanging around.

A major failing for Gannon was that he wanted change, but never got support for it because he had the old boys or Grew and Horsfield to convince it was needed after they had done well under Adams.

It's just something Sproson said before the game about managers wanting to bring in their own staff and not accept what's already there.

Aah right - didn't hear that. It certainly (possibly maybe 😆) suggests that could be an issue then.
