I really don't think 130k (if true) is unfair for the manager of a League 2 football club. It wouldn't surprise me if a couple of our better players were on that. I'm sick of us treating the most important job at the club so inadequately. If you want a better standard, you have to pay the going rate. We've done it once in the last 20 years with Micky Adams and we got promoted.  We've done it once with strikers, by signing Lee Hughes and we got promoted. Success costs money. I really don't think that kind of money for the manager of a professional football club is unreasonable though. Maybe I'm the one that's out of touch?

You're spot on mate.

Can spend all you want on the squad; if the manager is naff, you're going nowhere.

If you get a proper manager in, he can make a load of farmers look brilliant.

If we believe Flitcroft is a top 3 manager at this level, and would take us up, is a top 3 salary so outrageous?

We could probably afford those wages then and John Rudge would have been in very good pay when he was our manager, especially with his cut on transfer fees.

Its a simple equation for me Pugh manager, Sinclair OUT, Tonge IN

Tonge has a new job at Huddersfield does he not?

If we made the playoffs, won 40% of our games and reached the league cup semi final next year would that be a successful season?

The so what on youth is it was one of Carols “boxes”... so just pointing out that to say he ticks “none” of them is wrong.

Okay he ticks one of them. A league cup run... really? Lots of lower league sides have Cup runs. Bradford made the final with Parkinson!

If we're choosing our next manager based on a league cup run & a playoff place I'd be worried. That's not a proven record of success for me personally.

Anyone who says McGreal sprung to mind when Carol read out her remit is lying.

I’m not asking about the cup run in isolation.

I get you don’t want him... that’s fine.

But if the vale had a 40% win rate, made the playoffs and made the league cup quarter final next season... you wouldn’t call that a success?

But he isn't so it is - in my opinion.  We'd get Cowley for that sort of cash.

If Danny Cowley only wants 130k a year and we're not willing to pay it, then we might as well shut up shop. I really doubt he'd go anywhere for less than 500k though.
