A: Some fans actually hoped they would come here - there's a difference!

B: They've built their reputation, initially, with non-League teams...so no reason why Lge 2 teams / fans can't hope for that.

Lancy, I’m not saying about developing our own, even though we’ve only brought Gibbo and a Smith through which means in that time at least perhaps 25 times as many have been released. The first team manager will not be dealing with youth that will be DF’s role and whoever is in charge of the youth team. The youth team does not seem to have that much success, so we’ll probably have to bring in another person.

My comments were because I’ve interpreted it that Carsley with his contacts will bring in players from EPL clubs to develop them. If I have this wrong then I retract my post. I just don’t want us to be a development club. I want our own players that represent our City and fans. The country is full of little clubs like ourselves who give different towns their individual identity. This would disappear if teams become feeder clubs and it’s letting the Spanish model in through the back door

Ahhh...got you!

Of course - Carsley coming in is only a rumour, as yet. But, if he did, I would expect, at some time, that we could count on his connections to find young players in a role we needed them. This, I suspect, would only be temporary - as in loans, short- or long-term? I wasn't suggesting we might fill the team with such players, no matter how good they may be?

But, this kind of set-up ought to be able to find those players at top clubs who can't break into the first teams, because of the demand for immediate success. It has been suggested, also, that we could be looking for this type of player? Like I say, though - it's just pie-in-the-sky until / unless Carsley, or someone in that mould, comes in as Head Coach?

No harm done - I probably could have expressed myself better!

I know we haven't brought many through from our younger teams / squads, recently...but we have a decent record, stretching back  to the Rudgie years, for finding young lads who can't break into their first teams, including a couple in the current squed.

Which people have been saying that then?

@Eddie Ford At the risk of blowing my own trumpet, I've been blogging about it for some years. Here's three examples:

https://www.onevalefan.co.uk/2015/04/youth-progress-gives-cause-for-optimism/

https://www.onevalefan.co.uk/2017/11/can-the-locally-produced-class-of-2017-bring-port-vale-a-bright-future/

https://www.onevalefan.co.uk/2016/02/five-things-for-any-new-owners-of-port-vale-to-consider/

The last one in particular includes this:

"...they could do a lot worse than take elements of the other three models that is – spot promising talent and sell it on, develop local youngsters and allow for steady progression and continuity. It sounds easier than it undoubtedly is but I firmly believe that these models have shown that they work time and time again."

I'm not saying I'm right, I'm often wrong, but I have at least been saying it. 🙂

I'd agree with the previous comments on here, I'd be very happy with Carsley. My only concern is the move from working with elite level youngsters to work with Danny Whitehead. Hopefully he can get a tune out of our useless team till the end of the season then begin to mould a good young team from there.

Let's be honest. If he can make mills look anything like a professional footballer, he's a feckin magic man, not a football coach

Get Jim Bentley in. He got Mills to Morecambe's Player of the Season two years ago

He is pretty bald, clearly the club should be going for Jurgen Klopp. Far more successful at finding a barbers and tactically far more astute with a comb. Pep has been a follicle failure at every club he's managed IMO. Shows Shanahan's complete lack of understanding of modern fashion.  My god who is running this club! I won't be renewing my season ticket if that's the standard of hair cut we are after. At least we have a Director of Football who knows his way around a bottle of shampoo.

Klopp was bald but had a hair transplant 🙄

The top clubs all have directors of football. But then so did Kidderminster Harriers when they got relegated out of the Football League. Let's hope we're getting this right.

Wasn't the  Kidderminster relegation due to financial issues.

Even more reason the board MUST make the appointment if they have any ambition. Clearly a man who understands flowing locks of hair make all the difference
