Agree with all that, but I’m keen we assess all managers with a level ruler... his “pretty decent” football was at Plymouth who have a very decent budget for league 2.... something levelled against Flitcroft.

Im looking at this purely against the “ticking Carols boxes” requirement. All I’m saying is Adam’s certainly doesn’t tick them all.

Yeah, all managers at this level will have a flaw to them.

It would seem the wind is blowing in Flitcroft's direction. For all his flaws, the lad knows how to finish in the top 7 of this league and organise a defence. Hope he brings it here.

I recall he's a bit of a sh!thouse on the touchline? If so, sign me up. About time we starting being a pain.

I suspect that is part of the problem here - we can't afford someone who ticks them all.

To be fair to Carol, I wouldn't have her job at the moment for all the tea in China.  She will not please everyone and this is the first time she has been faced with making this sort of appointment.  She will, no doubt, have taken soundings from other folk but in the end, the buck stops with her.  That's why I hope whatever appointment she makes turns out to be a roaring success.  She deserves nothing less.

That goes without saying Jacko, everyone would say the same.

Im going to respectfully push for an answer on the success criteria you mentioned... Flitcroft has that doesn’t he?

Flitcrofts win rations are:

Barnsley: 31.1% with a shocking team

Bury: 40.8%

Swindon: 50%

Mansfield: 38.2%

Those are good numbers.

Also a variety of working conditions/outcomes thus broadening his experience, basis of a conversation with the interview panel on how he will operate and develop the Vale. Will have to be adaptable, results are required both for stability and promotion, football style may have to come later to establish the Vale back in L1.

Agreed... but given that context, you seemed disappointed with the idea of Flitcroft. So much so you questioned whether Carol was “pulling the strings”.

Thats a pretty strong reaction is it not? Maybe I read it wrong?

I'm going to respectfully ignore your question!

There are stories doing the rounds that certain members of staff are having more influence than is perhaps appropriate but they may be utter rubbish - as most rumours are at a time like this.

Flintcroft is Another Ex Macc player I'm sure a few will have something to say about that. I don't think we are going to get the perfect manager that ticks all the boxes carol mentioned and I dont think we are going to pay for someone already in a job. I'm also not sure we should moan about the man whose got the job until he's at least got the job.

Either of them may turn out to be excellent appointments but when you look at their records compared with Derek Adams they just don't stand up.

You're assuming Adams wants to become Port Vale manager. No point comparing records of people who didn't apply or want the job.

I saw you posted before he was interested in Bradford but it doesn't mean he is interested in us and things have moved on in terms of the season for Morecambe since then.

These stories and rumours are what's holding the Vale back, and getting on fans nerves how long has it been like this ? I feel sorry for Carol they will have to set up a lead lined secure room.

Either of them may turn out to be excellent appointments but when you look at their records compared with Derek Adams they just don't stand up.  That's what I find a bit disappointing.  There may well be financial issues here - I fully understand that - but I would really like to know who is doing all the interviews and making the decisions.  It looks like Carol has said one thing then something different happens.  I may just be paranoid though - remembering our former owner's approach to managerial appointments!!  "I've been astonished by the quality of the applicants" which got us all excited then we got bloody Bruno!!!

Jacko51 who do you think might be making the decisions or is influencing the decisions?
