Next Manager

It gets on my nerves when people start quoting win ratios as a way of proving how successful a manager is or not.  I am not wanting Sol Campbell as manager but what he did at Macclesfield under really bad circumstances was nothing short of exceptional despite a win ratio of 26%, they were well adrift at the bottom when he took over that season.

Look at Leicester and who is their best manager ever, no question it is Ranieri, league title, quarter finals of the Champions League and he has a lower win ratio than Rodgers.

People don’t want him after Salford but he had a right <ovf censored> show behind the scenes there, they trained on a community centre, had things nicked, at one point the pitch was a mess so he had to ring round where his kid had once played to find an astroturf for them to train on.

Hardly ideal and probably why there success has stagnated.

Weren't they in 4th place...or thereabouts...when they got rid of him? If so - not a failure!

I think a lot of people are adverse to the idea of another inexperienced "chancer" manager as we've been burned with the likes of Glover, Page, Ribiero, Aspin, Brown etc.

I would prefer an experienced head to steady the ship and oversea a rebuild of the squad this summer personally.

Spot on. For me win ratios mean very little. You have to look at the bigger picture, firstly what a manager inherited at the club and what the remit was i.e survival, cost cutting, concentrate on developing youth team, promotion.  I'm sure it will all be fleshed out during the interviews.

It was good to hear from Colin Garlick earlier. He said we had received an avalanche of serious applications already, quite rightly making the point we are an attractive proposition for someone.

Re Joey Barton - just read a story about why he left Fleetwood.

"It has been claimed that dressing room discord followed an attempt by Barton to impose fines on Fleetwood players for wearing gloves - only for the players to produce photos of Barton wearing the same garments during his playing days."

Joey Barton has admitted he 'didn't always get it right' but has vowed to 'keep getting better' following his acrimonious sacking by Fleetwood Town.

The 38-year-old was dismissed by the League One club on Monday in the wake of a dressing room bust-up with striker Ched Evans.

As revealed by Sportsmail, Barton took exception to a comedy skit performed by Evans at a team meeting and the pair got into a heated row following last month's 1-0 defeat at Swindon Town.

Just spoken with a mate who’s a Motherwell fan. He reckons they pay about £125k to their manager. Couldn’t see us doing that but who knows.

That could be off their message board where the question is asked and no one really knows the answer so they guess at that range.

Depends what you want in a manager, in the case of Ranieri an inspiration to a group of players assembled by someone else with some unknowns who became superstars, already welded into a team after an epic battle against relegation. A magnificent achievement but the only time he has ever topped a national league. Sacked the next season due to player power.

Win ratios is the easy way in a results business, unearthing potential is far more difficult. Picking Ranieri was a very brave decision even reckless to lots of people at the time but it came off.

Garlick an interesting listen. No surprise there's been a load of applications.

It's good that there are underlying 'principles and a philosophy' behind the process. It's all been a bit scattergun before.

An open-mind regarding who it will be; not definitely going for experience.
