So the general consensus seems to be let's replace JA, whom many of you argue failed, with a manager who failed in their last job......

Thats football, one clubs failure is another clubs success.

Exactly - Someone will fail somewhere, walk into another club and turn fortunes around. Thats what happens, thats why its exactly the same names time after time.

How many clubs south of the championship appoint anyone who didn't fail or run out of steam in their last job?

How many managers are readily available because things were going spectacularly well?

If you want someone going all guns blazing we're either getting someone top of the conference or we're hoping Derek Adam's thinks we've got more potential than Morecambe and he fancies it.

Christ I hope we've got more potential than Morecambe!

Very few managers never fail or come up to expectations. Some take the easy way out and go to a bigger club or pay packet until they eventually fail. Many only fail to keep the players on side, who have more power than owners when the results become unacceptable.  Missing promotion is  acceptable  unless you have invested a lot,  but league status is essential for the Vale.

We may as well go after Phil sproson. He's got that many class players on his books we'd be in the PL within 4 years

To be fair Phil , Crookes is the new Maldini. And I expect Toby Edser to be in the England squad soon from what Phil says

Every single successful football manager,  and I mean successful,  not just alright, demonstrate certain requisite characteristics.   They're not clones of one another, but all prove themselves at sometime,  at their respected levels and are the right person at the right time.  Notwithstanding the fact that they also know a bit about the game.

  • Have a presence of authority and credibility
  • Are inspirational leaders
  • Great psychologists
  • Adapts to, and drives change
  • Knows his players
  • Demands both individual and team work ethic
  • Has clear disciplinary expectations

Sometimes even these are not enough and even the best managers ultimately have a shelf life,  here's just a few examples, who at the top of their game, ticked all of the above and then some. They also achieved notable success at more than one club, or built the a club up from a lower league

Sir Alf, Shankly, Clough Snr, Ferggie and even at his peak, our very own Micky Adams.

Problem is, how do we find 'em?

Have the folk talking about the Morcombe manager forgotten that just a couple of days ago Carol told us all that we are £1M down on turnover?  We have just had to pay off Askey and Keven and now you want them to pay compensation for a bloke that finished 22nd in League Two last season....

Are you forgetting the fact that they also need to pay Norman a chunk too?

Easy to spend other folks money isn't it.

Just out of interest who would you like?

Quote from MA Wikipedia from 2018 ""I’m sad to see the Vale where they are. A couple of things about the Vale: To the players… liven yourselves up, and secondly to Norman Smurthwaite, sell the club for God’s sake."

That's been done, would he now come back?
