It was good, I enjoyed it hugely but a “memory to last a lifetime” is hyperbole of the highest order.

Askey ruined my Christmas with a series of dire performances.

When you’re in too deep. Unless this is a clever ironic use of hyperbole too.

This shows you what a fickle world football is. At half time on 14th November Askey was a good manager. Seven weeks later he’s gone. Very sad. Thanks for all your efforts John and Dave. They were

I'm not happy that he's supposedly lost his job. Unlike Scumthwaite, it's difficult to celebrate someone getting the boot when they're actually an affable and nice bloke. I feel really harsh

Days like today are why I hate football sometimes.  I’m not sure why people are rejoicing. Yes I wanted a change, but this is a genuinely sad day for the club and a very decent guy who obviously

"Askey ruined my Christmas with a series of dire performances."

Sorry to hear that TJH, but you might find that the players were responsible too.  Askey may have picked them and given them the tactics, but I'm pretty sure conceding within a minute wasn't part of his team talk.

Like many on here, I feel the players have to take some responsibility too. Hopefully, the new boss will root out the crud and lower the average age of the squad with some exciting young players.

I think this is a mistake. Carol has more than earned the right to make calls as she sees them, and I'm right behind whoever she chooses as a successor. However, I think JA was capable of turning it around. He got us playing decent football at times and would have taken us up last year if Covid hadn't come along. With the window approaching, I think he knows better than anyone what needs to change in terms of personnel - will a new manager have the same understanding? Ultimately, recruitment has cost John his job, but his ability to improve players like Joyce, Wozza and Gibbo will stand us in good stead for the rest of the season.

On a side note, I find the glorying in a man losing his job to be completely unpalatable, especially when that man is decent and genuinely loved our football club. Have some trucking dignity. JA deserves better than some fan's reactions. I'm glad there are some who recognise his efforts... it gives me faith that not all our supporters are morons.

Agree with your 2nd paragraph however I can’t see how in any way this is a mistake.

A shame but I think his time had come. He was just getting to the point where the opportunity to turn it around was running out. I wouldn't have complained if he had been given a bit longer but as someone who likes managers to be given time to correct bad form I was running out of hope. Good luck John.

Now a very important decision needs to be made. Let's hope we get it right.

Like a number of other posters I feel it had to happen but take no pleasure when it does. JA & DK gave me believe after the Blue To$$er debacle.
What is ironic is two people with the best intentions can be jettisoned but we are stuck with the apparent villains totally unaffected.

Agree entirely, JA had done enough at Vale to warrant at least the game against Grimsby in charge. Win that one and the return of the likes of Worrall, Montano, Colon and Pope together with with a few Jan signings and the ship could well have been turned around.

I just hope Carol has a new manager ready to sign and the same fickle Vale fans are not calling for the new managers head in February 2021.

I agree with all of your post apart from this. Askey, unfortunately, had a poor track record with recruitment and the idea that THIS window would be the one he nails is contravening all previous evidence

I liked the bloke but there was no guarantee we'd even make the playoffs last season, let alone being surefire to go up.

Unless he wins every game, the gobby dozen will be slagging whoever it is off.

I just would like a manager with more than 6 points in 36, personally. 46 wins would be decent, though.

Are you suggesting Carol has been swayed by a gobby dozen? Very poor comment to make on our excellent chairlady, mate. Write a formal apology to her. So negative.

Talk of a new manager is a difficult one ! You have to admire what the managers at Morecambe Cheltenham and Newport have done, I doubt if all the journey managers sitting on huge pay offs would do any better.

Here he is, moron-in-chief.

Moron in chief for being ridiculed for saying about how askey needed to go a long time before everyone else and getting absolutely slated for it

How had he? After Stevenage we were saying he’s done enough to warrant another game. Well how many times can you keep saying these? We were / are getting beaten easily by poor sides he 100% did not deserve another match.

Jan signings under askey? Really? No way would he have signed players to turn this around. Just look at his past signings.

vale fans have not been fickle. Far from it and askey has had it much much easier than if fans could attend. We have won 1 in 12. Yes 1 in 12 and lost to kings lynn, some of the worst performances in the clubs history (against some truly dire sides) blaming injuries isnt on. All sides have them, mansfield had just as many as us and still won more than comfortably.

He has had at least 3/4 games more than he should have done. We can’t just keep saying one more game John. Lose and then we’re even closer to the bottom.

Not much to ask really in the basement of English football. Yet some somehow think he deserved more time. Mad that.

I’m trying to turn over a new leaf and be a bit more positive and kind at the moment... so I for one would like to say I went in too hard on you and I genuinely apologise.

For clarify, I will just point out my criticism wasnt that you wanted Askey gone, different points of view belong on a forum as should some healthy disagreement. It’s was the ferocious and continuous posting of said message over and over again that I was ridiculing you for.

That said, as I say, I went over the top and I apologise.

Like, I get that he did a decent job and we should wish him well. I'd buy him a pint if I saw him.

However, the belief that he needed one more game and one more window after the recent shambles is overstepping the platitudes, in my view. Mansfield, and the apparent debacle afterwards, is sufficient evidence that his position was untenable.

I accept your apology and offer mine aswel both said things that we didnt mean.

however the reason i posted ferociously is due to the fact i reached the pulling my hair out stage a lot sooner than everyone else i think. And the fact nobody was seeing what was going on was frustrating to me, and people were having personal digs at me rather than asking to debate the points i was making. All is forgotten

but the askey era is done and im going to be getting fully behind whoever is appointed as they have a massive job on our hands.
