I don’t think pope should be praised. I find it quite shameful how players can put no effort in for weeks and as soon as a manager goes they all of a sudden put some effort in.

To single out Pope is harsh. You could say the say thing about a lot of them lads out there today.

Enjoyed that ok second half we seem to sit on it but closed the gaps and worked our socks off ,and apart from a deflected shot and someone hammering the ball wide when he should  have scored we saw the game out well .

Didnt see the first goal as  was coming back from a walk at Trentham gardens but second goal was a beautiful goal great header and the third a brilliant ball in from top man Worrall .

Popes a asset in a two ain't he thought he was magnificent but I do not want single players out as every player put a shift in so well done all

Good start for DP and lots of positives

I'm no big fan of current Pope but thought he was excellent today. Held the ball up superbly, sent the ball back for the first, played through Worrall for the second, and was lurking for the third and would have converted if Waterfall hadn't done so. Seemed to enjoy having Rodney flying about, causing mayhem for all.

Their centre halves are no farmers - Waterfall was part of Cowley's Lincoln side, and Pollock will be bought by a club higher up fairly soon, having attracted Premier League interest.

I was just posing the question.  Have a sneaking suspicion that Carol may give them a few matches trial--much easier and quicker than recruiting.  If I'm correct, let's hope it's successful!

It would be a good option for Carol and the board and agree it would be good to see Vale promote from within the Club, but just waiting to see over a couple of games if this is the answer.

Adam Yate's said earlier they have not looked at CV's yet as they have been supporting Pugh, so sounds like they are taking their time with this decision, but it gives the two of them a good chance to say - we are here and we are doing the bizz.

If all players give that kind of effort and commitment every week then we will  not be far off. Yes they were poor but very happy with three points and the players attitude. This is the minimum standard we want every week. So pleased for our owners and fans.

Well done, Vale - great three points, just what the doctor ordered. Excellent change when Burgess came on for Rodney, keeping the midfield tight as Grimsby tried to get back in the game - and keeping us moving forward as that great pass to Worrall showed for his third assist.

Different kettle of fish next Saturday at FGR. They are currently fourth - largely by virtue of their away record which is the third best in L2. At home they have the eighth best record: W5 D4 L2 F14 A10, so not as daunting as you might think. Let's see how Pugh & Co set us up after today's solid win. Every chance for an upset.

In the meantime, it's Sunderland on Tuesday with, I guess, a different starting eleven. It would be good to see RCG get a run out after Monty's defensive display today, though I am a big fan of Monty's.

Nothing like a Vale win on a Satdee followed by a few snifters!

True I could and I have on other threads. I singled pope out because of the original post I quoted and his constant articles but your right I could say it about all of them

Calm down, they are probably the worst side we have played. We did well and got the job done, we’ve got a huge test up next let’s see how we do in that. We’re miles off the play offs

Mine wasn't a prediction, just quoting statistics---6 points off the last play-off place.
