Just noticed Tyler Denton has gone to Kings Lynn,i actually rated him when he was at Vale,so shows what i know and how players can leave the football league if they aren't careful

Fans seemed to start rating him more highly when Aspin dropped him than when he actually played. For me he looked a nice footballer going forward but the defensive side of his game was suspect.

Hearing rumours we're after Pat Webber, recently released from Wigan.

Not sure where the rumours have come from.

21 year old LB/CB. Seems like another Crookes? Unless he is a specialist LB (can't find too much info on him!)

Its a name thats been thrown about on twitter mainly by UV,he does however fit in with the kind of player Carol wants at the club, young prospects

Where him being released makes some sense is I think he counts as under 21 as he's just had a birthday. He can go somewhere and try and get some games as an under 21 players for half a season. If he does well he might get a squad contract next season. Seems sensible for Wigan if they know they will release him, the player and whoever signs him if they are up to their 22 man squad. I suspect we will see more of this over coming seasons. Whether Vale are interested I've no idea.

Yes,i thought he could of been turned in to a winger more so than a LB

Unfortunately, the more I look at the current squad, with its crop of old men, deadwood, and injury-prone players, the more I think we're going to need a 'rebuild' this summer.

Askey went for some evolution and it's backfired, and now we've got an old squad with a good number of players who are in decline/not good enough. The salary cap is going to dictate that we can't afford to have 2-3 players who are unavailable more than they are on the pitch. Our top earners are going to have to be playing 40+ games if they're going to eat into the cap.

We're also going to need a few U21s who don't have to be registered but can step in in cup games/injury crises; 1-2 from the academy and a couple from elsewhere. Treat them as a Development Squad. Look at non-league. Hurst was playing in tier 6, Rodney in tier 5.

Tough decisions are going to have to be made on Brown, Legge, Joyce, and Pope; can we afford their wages still, whilst ensuring we aren't short elsewhere?

The Salary Cap poses many problems but I quite like it; clubs have really got to sit down and make tough decisions. What % of your cap goes towards your forwards? How many minutes does each player have to contribute to earn his share of the cap? How can we be creative with young players to give us an advantage? Where do we spend the money, and where do we go for the cheaper option?

If Pugh is installed, as I expect he will be, he should be planning now for what he's going to do this summer, as I think it'll be a big one. We can't afford a repeat of last year.

When contracts were offered squad limits weren't under discussion. The decisions on youth recruitment and Sinclair were partly in a response the the limit on over 21s. Brown is a different case but I'd be surprised if Legge, Pope and (less certain) Joyce get another offer. As we are likely to be in league 2 next season I believe we have to reduce the squad further to 20.

I agree with that. I think Theo, who has a year left, was worth a go ahead of Cullen.

But Cullen, when he's come in, has done ok and scored goals...which can't really be said of Theo. And Him having 12 months left on his contract just means we could ask a fee for him.

If a club came in and made a cheeky offer for Legge, Joyce and Pope (had he not been injured) I wonder if those players would be tempted to go?

Looks like Crewe have played the transfer system again, Ng plus 1 out, for decent fees, then two good Championship players to replace them. We have a long way to go to catch up.

Irritatingly efficient b*stards.

They don't have to worry about the salary cap either as a good chunk of their 22 will be U21.

If they play their cards right in the next year (hold onto the key few, and reinvest the profits from the others) they could be looking at a challenge at the top 6.

They have a brilliant model that we should be trying to replicate. NG was out of contract soon as well so they’ve done well to get that for him

I think that is the route Carol ideally wants to follow, not sure how many of our youth team are ready though,we seem to be lacking there,i know they rate the striker Bailey but at the moment i think that is it from the current crop

Crewe’s academy has been built up over years and years with a lot more investment than we’ve put into ours. They have been able to afford it initially with the money they used to generate from player sales. I heard from a Crewe supporting work colleague that even they were questioning the costs involved recently, but they wanted to stay with it at it as that was their “business model” so to speak.
