Match Thread: Port Vale v Colchester United

To add to a point in a previous post, we don't generate pressure on a team to force a goal. These goal time stats are before todays games.  Scored -conceded.Its no coincidence most of the sides in the top 6 have the best goals scored - conceded in the last column 75-90 mins.

We are terrible in this category and only cements my view we don't know how to put teams under pressure to get a goal to turn a draw to a win and defeat into a draw.I don't think JA's subs helps us in this regard either.

I just think if you have worked hard all week and are employed by the club , it’s only fair they get to sit in the ground and watch what they have worked all week for .

It’s a reward of being an employee for the club . I’d rather be there to , but not going to begrudge anyone a privilege for what their employment brings.

I'd agree if there wasn't a pandemic on. Rewards or not, we're all prevented from doing things at present, and I don't see how some of them need to be at the game when we're not allowed to go round to other people's houses. Surely a fan deserves to be at the game more than people literally paid by the club?

I don't agree with this view that some fans are more deserving than others. All or nothing.

Will drop it as its clearly a divisive subject and I'm already seen as a moaner.

I do not share your confidence re: Pope.  The number of games Tom scored from open play in last season was 4 of his 37 appearances,, and 1 from 11 this season.  That is 5 games out of 48 he has had a goal scoring contribution from open play(I know he has scored more than once in some of these games, but that only influences the result in one game).

Rodney for all his rawness has already scored in 5 separate games from 19 appearances this season.

Both have started games and come on as sub.

We need to look forward not back.  Rodney may well develop into the 20+ goal centre forward we crave, but he will only develop in that role by playing in the central position.

Tom, for all his past contributions is no longer the goal threat he was, and it would be foolhardy to build our plans around a fading 35 year old.

Pope has only been on the pitch for 10 minutes for most of his appearances this season and there isn't many strikers at this level better than him in the air like his 2 headed goals against southend. Pope will also say his game isn't all about goals and when he played the other night he set up one of the goals. Yeah rodney is doing quite well but he doesn't look like a 20 goal a season man to me more like a 10 goal a season man he needs to score the tap in goals to be a 20 goal a season player.

It’s not just goals he adds though is it. Didn’t he score 2 at Southend by the way?

Correct.  He did score against Southend’s kids from 2 pinpoint crosses.

that is the one game from his eleven appearances he has scored in.

Theo has scored against Scunthorpe, Wigan and Cambridge.

I think it's a bit unfair. If they can go, why can't they invite 15 fans a week? It's galling, especially with the racket they make.

We've paid £300 to watch the games on iPads as we wanted to back the club in a difficult time, with no guarantee we'd get to see any live football.

People seem to be taken advantage of their employment to go to the games every week. If they can all go, why not rotate it and invite some lucky fans/fans who have had a tough time? It's not like they're needed there.

I get what you're saying, but if they're not needed to be there to help the game go ahead, then what are they doing there?

Carol and Kevin, and the staff who are needed to ensure the game goes ahead. Shouldn't be anyone employed by the club (some with a very tenuous justification for being there).

Joe, Phil has as much right as some in the directors box to be at games. He is a paid employee of the club. What’s your problem?  Sounds like jealousy to me. The club photographer goes to every game as well - I suppose you think he shouldn’t be there either because you have a perfectly good iPhone that you could use to do the job?

6 starts, 5 more as sub.  Most of last season he was our main striker. Agree he scored 2 good headers at Southend from 2 quality crosses.

I merely said I did not share your confidence that Tom will get the goals.

Devante may or may not become a 20 goal striker.  Based on the last 18 months I know Tom will not be.

I didn't mention Phil, Jean. Not once. No idea where he's come from.

It is jealousy, but my problem is one of fairness. Gerard has to be there to take photos - he can't do it from home. It's an essential job as the media needs the photos. No issues there.

Some employees do not need to be there. That's my only gripe. At a time when fans are sat at home, the COO of the club and the Communications Director don't need to be at the game. Their roles are not impacted if they were at home today, but would be adhering to the Tier 3 rules that every other fan of the club has now rigidly stuck to since March.

I don't think it's wrong of me to be jealous of being at the Vale when their utility on matchday would be just as much a mine if I was there, but they happen to be employed by the club Monday-Friday. I love the Vale, and want to be back there desperately.

Whatever the result today, I was talking absolute <ovf censored> when suggesting the players weren't playing for Askey a couple of weeks ago.

Give me some of that humble pie, it tastes great!

Fair play to you for that comment

On that note has somebody locked Vale1995 in a cupboard? I guess we will have to wait for vale to lose for them to come out again
