Match Thread: Port Vale v Leyton Orient

Will the return of talisman Joyce make all the difference? Who are we now? Only Southend with 11 have lost more games than our 7.  Our run of 4 defeats on the trot are also the current worst in L2. Before the game serious soul searching by players and management is essential. Inspiration and motivation are also elusive. (Since Joyce was sent off, Tranmere have picked up 12 points and the Vale conceded 12, what a turning point) Can he really make such a difference? Legge and Pope to return?

In my humble opinion, our best XI is Brown, Clark, Legge, Smith, Monty, Oyeleke, Joyce, Conlon, Amoo, Pope, Worrall - and if we can field this starting XI we'll be ok but no more than that. I'd give these lads a run together and if we need to replace/change some then so be it.

The problem is of course that this is an ageing team and no-one we signed in the summer deserves a regular starting place for me, though Rodney shows flashes of ability. Sadly, the rest are mediocre and we still very much rely on the injury prone Oyeleke who remains key in midfield as well as the equally injury prone Monty who gives us a bit of the x factor.

I hope we can turn it around. The first goal will be crucial, otherwise heads could drop and "here we go again."

But how many of that team will be fit to play?

Anyone disagree with my selection?

Not sure when Pope be back as he was a surprise omission at Newport, so maybe the game too early for him.

I'm almost at the stage where we just put names in a hat.

Genuinely have no idea what side we will put out.

I assume Amoo and Conlon will still be AWOL so our options are minimal.

Rodders has to get a start purely based on the fact he looked lively and made an impact.

Brown / Visser surely can't be discounted

MIlls Brisley Legge Clark

Joyce Manny Burgess ( only because no other option )

Worrall Rodney Montano

I've kept Brisley on the basis he was slightly less awful than Smith who had probably his worst ever Vale game.

Fitzpatrick is as average as average can be and must of thought all his birthdays had come at once when we signed him.

I agree with your side but because of injuries and suspensions it's gone belly up.

Is Manny eligible for a testimonial by the way now he's played 3 in a row ? 😀

Well vale we have really hit rock bottom against a side that have only won 2 out of 30 matches played management and players should take a long hard look at themselves. The effort and lack of basic skill our players showed last night was frightening the first goal where Smith could not pass a ball 5 yards to a team mate it went straight out of play for a throw in which led to there goal. The pass between our centre backs that led to the second watching Brisley almost jogging after the ball. Then you see first Montano on the left wing then he goes on the right wing then ends up in the middle what is going on does anybody know what he is trying to do.Burgess nowhere near the player he was last year looks disinterested and completely lost i know manny has had injuries but he looks like he has put the pounds on.Last nights showed up our so called strikers to a,tee their top goalscorer has only scored 2 goals this season there two front men last night were made to look like ronaldo and messi by our shambolic team. And one other thing we have had 3 ex players die last week this was the second match that we have played not one black arm band has been worn what a disgusting state we have got ourselves in end of rant.

That’s a good selection although I feel Rodney starting with Pope as an impact sub makes more sense to me at the moment.

I’m not optimistic, but Askey has lost 4 in a row before and recovered, so you never know. This really is last chance saloon though, and he probably knows it. He will no doubt return to his ‘tried and tested’ cautious 4-3-3.

From who’s available, I’d go with the below:

                 Brown

Clark  Brisley Legge  Monty

                 Joyce

     Manny             Burgess

 Amoo      Rodney    Worrall

If Amoo is still injured, then bring Cullen in and shift Rodney out wide. If HIS players can’t pull out a performance when his job is on the line, then I don’t think he is the man to lead us forward.
