Whatever anyone thinks about JA can we stop thinking about MA.  We should not be even thinking about that possibility. He was disrespectful  to the club saying something like 'the only phone  call I receive at the Vale is from my wife wondering want I want for my tea.'

Also more importantly his last job in the football league was at Tranmere and he took them into the Conference!

Thought I’d start this thread so it doesn’t get lost in the match threads. Some of our fan base this season has been an embarrassment, calling for Askey to be sacked. We need to take a step back,

Bollox. If you mean 80/90% of posts, you may be close to the mark, but the vast majority of those posts were made by the same half dozen who pop up vociferously whenever we lose. You've fallen into th

I think that the counter attacking way in which we play is probably more to do with the last few seasons performance rather than the way the manager wants to play. We are not in a mid table existence.

I'm not sure Carol will sack Askey any time soon.

My gut instinct is that we should give him a few more weeks but looking at the fixures, I'm not sure what the minimum that he could achieve is that would mean I'd be happy for him to stay on for the 2nd half of the season.

We've got 6 league games left in 2020, some look extremely tough on paper all of a sudden. I couldn't point to any one of them and say "yeah we should win that". I think for me now, we have to be looking at 10 points as a minimum for Askey to be able to claim that he can turn this slump around and I just don't think that it's doable.

Bolton A

Wolves U23 H

Colchester H

FGR H

Walsall A

Barrow H (boxing day)

Bradford A

I think, with regret, I'm officially Askey out now, although if he gets 3-4 more games I think I could live with it. The stakes aren't quite as high as being in relegation battle yet, but if this run goes on then by Christmas we seriously could be in one. I would back the squad to get out of it - we're way better than the squads of the last few years when we scraped enougn points  to stay up.

If we're going to decide that he's not the man to take us forward then we need to hire a replacement by mid Jan at the latest in my opinion, the earlier the better.

Irony of all ironies was the fact that the Sky reporter at the game last Saturday was Michael Brown!  Bet he had a smile on his face after seeing that show of abysmal defending.  I'm not defending Askey, but merely making the point that we have had a number of managers in recent years who many have been pleased we've got rid of, but then we don't seem to have had much luck with their replacements do we?

I find the majority of posts on here quite bizarre. In no business other than football would you rip up your budgets, sack the  management in whom you have invested money and upon whom you rely as they have more knowledge than you do and deliberately send your business in to a period of turbulence, all on the basis of a couple of bad weeks.

indeed Tony. But football is like nothing else. Not every sacking sees clubs in turbulent times.

And by the way i'm a keep Askey person.

You were the one to use the terms “sanctimonious” and “patronising” initially though Joe.  So it’s OK for you to use the terms towards me but not OK for me to reciprocate without you having a tantrum.  Sorry, I didn’t realise these were the rules.

As I said, good luck with your blog.  That’s not me being patronising, but a genuine sentiment.  👍🏻

Yes, as I felt you were being sanctimonious and patronising by accusing Vale fans of being short-termist 'win means good loss means bad' judges.

I mean, if you wish to label the blog I never promote/share and use as a side-hobby for about 5 readers as 'patronising and sanctimonious', then that's fine, but I think we both know it's a wide of the mark effort.

I appreciate the sentiment but, as I said, I'm not trying to grow; it's just a bin for me to lob long articles out on instead of clogging up OVF.

I detest Parkinson but he's a good League 2 manager.

Promotion with Bradford from this level, promotion with Bolton under some financial restrictions (and then keeping them in the Championship, which they'd kill for now).

He's failed at Sunderland but so did Ross, and there's a big culture/ownership issue there with Donald looking to sell for the past couple of years.

Would have him here, no question. We can't be picky about style of play.

It's not going to happen as Askey is going nowhere but it does shoot a hole in the argument of 'who else'.

Yeah a weird post.

We spend our entire life convinces ourselves that football is different, means more, etc etc, and then act confused when it isn't treated like a business.

If we're using business analogies; what would Askey's Key Performance Indicators have been this season? I can't imagine it was out of both cups and the 2nd most losses in the division, losing more games by the end of November than he did in the entirety of last season.

I thought folk didn’t want someone who always sounds miserable in his interviews?

I'm not bothered what they sound like. I just want out of this horrendous league I've spend over half my life following Vale around.

Good evening Jacko,

I hope you are having a thoroughly enjoyable Monday evening.

Who would your choice of manager be?

All the very best,

Jeff.

I was, still am really, an Askey "in" Vale fan, although after the Stevenage game in particular, I've drifted from outright support to an indifferent one. I think that John has the 4 league games to Christmas to improve matters. If performances fall further or flatline with no improvement evident, and subsequently results follow suit then he'll be gone by Walsall. Possibly Colchester if things really do fall off a cliff. Carol is an astute business lady and its my guess will already have more than half an eye on possible replacements. I would be the first to thank John and seriously wish him well. One small saving grace would be a new Manager would likely have time to assess the squad with the remaining December matches, Barrow and Bradford City's and the New Year to work the January window. I hope sincerely that Mr Askey and his staff can turn it around, but I feel that it has to be very very soon.

Unfortunately no one has a divine right to be out of any league.

No, I didn't suggest we did. I just want out of it. Not in the slightest the same. Not even sure what your point is. I was referring to Parkinson, despite being an odious character, would probably give us a better chance of getting promoted, considering his record?

It's absolutely s*** supporting a s*** football team your entire life. It's miserable.
