I'm only making the same point that I've made before - namely that we do not have enough natural, proven scorers in the team. Nor, for that matter do we have anyone with a bit of creative magic in their boots in midfield. An Eagles or a Bridge-Wilkinson type. A player who can get in the box, help Pope, and shoot from distance. Our midfield is powder puff and barely ever run past Pope. I can't remember the last time one of them scored from a header from a cross. They just don't score enough.

Teams have known for some time that if you shackle Pope (or our other lone strikers Cullen or Robinson) then we are struggling to score goals.

We haven't scored many goals in games for ages. Often we win by a single goal and are hanging on grimly for the points. When did we last score 3-4 in successive matches? It doesn't happen.

Maybe a fit McKirdy (and Monty too) would help in that regard and I still rate Oyeleke highly but he isn't a natural scorer either. He would however give us a bit more drive and bite.

Perhaps we are missing Taylor more than we thought. But a creative no 10 with an eye for goal would be a huge help.

Interesting to note that 'natural goal-poachers' AJ Leitch-Smith & Dior Angus who in my opinion, shouldn't have been let go, are both scoring golas this season for their respective teams

Leitch-Smith wanted to go after Smurfwaite decided he wanted a mass clear out and offered everyone existing terms of about 50p per week. A good league 1 player for us but would never have been with the club to this era.

Angus never looked a league standard player during his time with Vale during the worst era in the club’s history. However I am pleased to see myself being proved wrong since he left.
