Match Thread: Southend United v Port Vale

A long trip to winless Southend, but no time for charity. Chance of a little run and firming  up our position in the play-offs.  Monty doubtful but at least we have more options this season. Their chairman has promised to sort out their £500k tax bill. Up and at them from the start with a steady 2-0 win.

In court as we speak - for the fifth time as the winding up order has already been adjourned four times. By the sound of it, their owner isn't worried but the legal action has meant they haven't been able to sign players on a permanent basis - only loan players. And they've just signed a youngster on loan from Arsenal - James Oyalinka who plays in midfield.

No wins for Southend this season so, on paper, we should easily win this but we need to take it seriously!

It's being reported this morning that they've settled their tax bill.

Not sure why their chairman made a big song and dance about not having the money a few days ago but that seems to be the passive aggressive way he conducts his business.

Been there, done that. Our sympathies to Southend.

Crikey, if you think there's negativity on these pages, take a look at these comments from Southend supporters after last night's home defeat against Oldham:

What are the chances they'll play out of their skins on Saturday?

I assume Askey is well aware that bad runs end sometimes just as our unbeaten run ended, make no mistake get at them from the off, but they may have the same idea.

Mills is now fit so he can come in at right back with Clarke moving to his best position at left back and Fitz would be back on the bench,i'd like to see Pope start he seems raring to go

Don’t see any reason to change Clark and Fitzpatrick
