Looks like they don't want him. Not a good sign.

How do you read that into this short statement?

Hednesford Town can confirm that young full back Ryan Campbell-Gordon’s loan at Hednesford Town has ended and he has returned to Vale Park.

Campbell-Gordon made 3 starts for the Pitmen and 1 substitute appearance and we thank him for his work with us during his loan spell and wish him all the best for the season ahead at Port Vale.

It could literally be any one of half a dozen reasons:

  • Vale may want him back to move him on to another club (perhaps a higher placed one or one who make a bigger contribution to wages)
  • Vale may want him back to assess him in training / to play him in say the remaining FLT games
  • He may be injured and had the spell cut short because of that
  • Hednesford may not be able to afford his wages / or if Vale are paying they may only want to sanction a month as their finances may be tight too
  • Hednesford may want to prioritise a loan signing in another position
  • Vale may have cut the loan short for some reason (not played in the right position / not getting right training etc)

After all, with four appearances, he certainly seems to have been a regular pick during his month there.

That short statement is the bog std sort - none committal either for or against the player, just tanking him for his efforts in 3 starts and 1 sub appearance . If he was that crap it would have been 1 start and 1 sub appearance and then he would have sat on the bench. 1 game to see what he could do, then maybe half a match to see if he was worth another go. As he played in a total of 4 matches they must have valued his services somewhat or else why that many. We've had loan players where they have played 0 games.   They may have not asked for an extention so as not to give their hand away. They may be waiting to see if anyone else comes in for him and if not make a cheeky bid for him. Its all a game of cat and mouse.

That last line says it all Rob - 4 starts in a month !!!!  Bet Popey would like them figures, or Devante, Cullen and Robinson .

Now moved to Gainsborough Trinty until Jan.

So the first one of the half dozen reasons. He's moved from a Southern League Premier Division Central side to a National League North one. In effect one step higher up the pyramid.
