Leyton Orient have had a number of players test positive for Covid after their game with Mansfield.

With the fixtures as congested as they are how will it work if both clubs are unable to play for a couple of weeks?

Games will be postponed  and fitted in later, if a great number of games are postponed and cannot be fitted in the league could say clubs  only need to complete a maximum of 40 games .  A bit of a lottery but better than no football. Exceptional times with exceptional solutions.   There have been seasons where a large number of games were postponed due to snow and ice, playing  2 midweek games were used then.

Once this virus starts becoming relatively commonplace in football clubs and more decidedly in the players themselves, I can see a call for football to be halted indefinitely.

Meanwhile of course these very same players will expect to be paid in full.

Rocky times ahead I feel.

Why is a group  of players different than lots of groups  of workers who cannot work at home.  If the staffing level goes below a certain/safe  level the business closes until the staff return.   In the case of football set a level of absence at which a game can be postponed.   We are due a long hard period, would it not be good for morale to keep football going even if not all games were played, as long as the rules/options are clear on how many games have to be played for the season to be judged competitive and proper considering the circumstances we are in as a country?  Players pay should be governed by the same rules as the rest of the country.

This call off tomorrow only highlights the issue with lack of mandatory testing within the game at lower level. If Grimsby players and staff trained as normal today and received the testing results within 24 hours like the PL then there is no reason the game cannot go ahead if the majority of the squad got a clean bill of health. Instead we have to have the fixture postponed whilst they all self isolate.

All comes down to the lack of funding at lower leagues to be able to manage the ongoing risk, unless this situation is resolved quickly the fixtures could become a bit of a farce.

The government need to wake up to the fact that all sports need fans back in quickly to generate much needed income and support with a subsidy to do the testing. This will help with a life of normality and well keep the nation sane through a difficult winter.

Shocking that they decided to go ahead with a full football schedule with a late start in September. Can someone explain to me why the EFL Cup and EFL Trophy couldn't have been postponed for one year?

Postponed games due to coronavirus was inevitable. Where will they be fit into the schedule now clubs have three stupid EFL Trophy group games to play?

What happens if we get to February and we run out of matchdays left to play for some teams? Make them play 3/4/5 times a week?

The Euros were postponed once. UEFA won't postpone them again and they shouldn't have to just because leagues insist on overstuffing their schedules.

the leagues could have been more creative and also negated risk of travelling into different areas to try and ensure football happened and also had an opportunity to try something new.  They could have split Leagues one and two into halves and regionalised it as best they could.  Halve the number of games.  Then if time allowed and the virus allowed, the top half of each half could have competed either in league format or mini leagues and knockout for the title and promotion.  The bottom half could have done the same to settle relegation etc...  it needs a bit more creativity than that but you get my idea...  as time marches on and the finances of lower league clubs become more stressed, even without covid, regionalisation has to be an option.

According to the suits the cost of ferrying players up and down the country is pretty minimal. It's purely player wages that are bankrupting clubs, and coronavirus now too of course. Regionalization may really help away fans save money but it doesn't do that much for the clubs. As far as I understand then if we do have regionalization then it will only be because the EFL will be desperately doing anything and everything to avoid a complete collapse.
