Not the worst we'll see that's for sure.  Maybe should have booked at least one of their players for one of several fairly cynical challenges.  One of the officials has to see that elbow surely?

He was okay but we should have had a couple pennos The Smith one was outrageous.  And there was a blatant handball he missed earlier. So it goes.

I actually thought the ref was pretty decent, aside from missing the assault on smith. I'd take him over Trevor kettle any day of the week. Wasn't over zealous, tried to let the game flow, and was generally competent.

I’d take an actual kettle over Trevor.

How can a so called fan criticise the commentary of Phil Sproson a Vale legend  of almost 500 appearances and nephew of the all time legend Roy Sproson but spell it Sproston?he needs a slap

Joker- is that you Rob?

And I like Sproey on the commentary.

great three points today. Massive to get off to a flyer. Bring on Harrogate.

The full backs get done most of the time because of the system we play. The one with Fitz where brown had to make the save was because he was in the middle out of position covering for Smith who had pushed forward to cover midfield so he then had to get over to him by which time he was already running at him with the ball. We are definitely vulnerable down the wings but I think it's mostly down to the way we attack in numbers

Good performance, very comfortable and one positive was just how much better we looked all round than Crawley who will likely be a mid table side so bodes well.

Penalty was stone wall and a red card possibly but luckily didn’t affect the outcome.

Cullen shown why he is a good striker and why I’m glad we gave him another year, keep fit he could hit 20 a season IMO.

Conlon looks in great form now he’s allowed more freedom, his engine is a bonus and gives us that energy and bite and can cause damage.

Rodney is the fastest player I think I’ve seen in a long time! Had no right to get some of those balls. He is raw but certainly could turn into a big player for us with coaching if we can develop him, their right back probably went to sleep having nightmares about him. The spin and run to make our first was outstanding.

Full backs struggled at times but have been decent overall this past week, Legge was solid as was Smudge.

Scary to think that we still have McKirdy, Amoo, Gibbons, Pope and the options to start Robinson, Manny, Monty and Whitehead on top of that XI that did so well yesterday.

I felt this was a top end side and we shown that yesterday. The Crawley managers glowing praise was nice to see too.

Don't think he should be on commentary personally.

The part that gets me as well as the slating of the full backs is not pronouncing Conlon as one word he always says Con lon

Fantastic player for us but should you really have a football agent doing commentary? Thought Griff was good the other night

So called fan?? a bit strong imo

The Sproson family are legends at Vale no doubt about that(i went school with Phils nephew) but for me you can criticise if you dont think their commentary is much cop,yes he is a legend but for me he has conflicting interests so shouldnt commentate how he does.

Cullerton and Ray Williams mostly commentated on the Smurthwaite era so no wonder they were negative given the tripe on the pitch!

Birchall is my favourite co-commentator personally. I thought Griff just came up with too many generic clichés and often started points without knowing how to finish them. In my opinion.

One or two might have missed it but at the very end of the game Sproson unsurprisingly made his pitch for Crookes to be playing left back.

Embarrassing that was. I don’t like that aspect of Sprosons commentary. I know that these ex players provide a nice foil to  the Blakemans and @Phil Bof this world, but to me radio stoke shouldnt be having someone on there whos agenda is to promote his own players at the detriment of those on the pitch. It was very noticeable what he was doing to Gibbo last season especially. I actually had it on very good authority that Sproson wanted to represent Gibbo after he first broke into the side, so to me that says everything about the agenda he has. Our full backs weren’t brilliant yesterday, but no one in the side was anywhere near bad enough to be slaughtered by him as he did.

I must admit I didn't hear those comments at the end, which is pretty poor of Sproson in truth.  Equally, I didn't hear him "slaughtering" anyone, merely remarking on clear mistakes made by the full backs which nearly cost us.

Van Der Laan is my fave pundit on the rare occasions he's in the roll.
