Match Thread: FLT G1 Port Vale v Tranmere R

Askey could conceivably change virtually the whole starting 11 from Saturday to give players some game time, even those coming back from injury. There’s a decision to make on Pope too, do we keep him fit by playing him in these matches or give some much needed game time to the forwards who will be playing in the league games that Pope misses?

Do we still get fined for doing that?

Or have the rules changed again? I cant keep up!

Can’t remember the rules off the top of my head but I’m sure it’s not just down to who played in the last game. It’s also about appearances as well.

Off the top off my head, players that have made 50 first team appearances ( not necessarily 50 for vale) qualify.

Whatever happened to Tom Pope’s appeal?

Stu was talking about this on the Ale & The Vale pod the other week.

The short answer is, nobody knows.

The club said said they intended to appeal. Maybe they weighed it up and decided to quietly let it slide.

Those 6 games will fly by, 2 of them will be taken up by the league cup anyway so its not that bad. Plus we've got 3 strikers who can play in his position anyway and who are arguably in front of him too.

Why are we kicking off in the evening wasting valuable electricity and harming the planet ?
Surely with no crowds to worry about they could play at 3.00 pm ?
I assume it's because refs/linesman are part time and need time to get to the ground ???

Good point Fred.

People at work can't watch the game on line.

I don’t think that many would watch an EFL Trophy game on line at £10 a pop, which is why imo, all these games should have been played first with no fans( there were hardly any anyway)  leaving more time to play league games when fans can enter stadiums.

His ban doesn’t apply to EFL Trophy games.

Then who would you drop off the bench or do we give Cullen a rest, put Theo as start and bring Pope on in the 2nd half.  Oh to be the manager with that sort of problem.

At least he has who do I play problems and not the god what a rubbish squad to pick from.  How Vale have made progress over the past year.

Just have to wait and see how many passes Vale sell

Askey doesn’t seem to play any striker for the whole 90 mins, so a half for Pope then either Cullen or Theo. for the other half.
