Smurf returns

Don't worry he's not coming back to the Vale. But I've heard from a decent source that he is the preferred choice by the administrators at Wigan...

And who is the Wigan administrator? None other than Gerald Krasner. I fear for their future with debts and that idiot at the helm.

How does that work with the money apparently being paid back to him?

Wasn't that the reason why he couldn't bid for Bury etc because he has a financial interest with another club?

That was the reason he gave when he was linked to other clubs previously. How it works in practice is anyone's guess.

Smurthwaite was sniffing around Torquay United while he owned Vale and even succeeded in owning Nuneaton Borough on the QT for a few months in 2018. I get the impression the authorities turned a blind eye to that rather than choosing to open that can of worms.

Does our previous owner have an interest in our club or just the ground??

I may be looking at it too simplistic but isn't the rule to prevent a conflict of interests if two clubs meet?  So say Wigan played Vale in the cup, there is a chance of one of his investments (even if that investment is a stadium, not a team) potentially being affected by the result and the rules are there to prevent that conflict of interests.

If the current PVFC limited company is now the team and stadium combined would that also mean his remaining interest is not just in the stadium?

I could very well be wrong in all the above and I suspect the EFL's "fit and proper" process is just a look at whether someone has the funds to complete the purchase and that's about it.

What have Wigan done to deserve the bad luck they seem to be having, don't think i'd wish smurf on stoke but then again.

The stadium is 85% owned by Wigan Athletic and 15% by the council, however the council owns the freehold.

Wigan RLC also still has around 30 years left on a 50 year lease. There are also covenants to protect the land from being used for anything other than football or Rugby.
