I thought you had to be elected as a councillor to a particular party by your constituents, wasnt aware you could just 'jump ship????

The individual is what you elect. The party they are a member of is irrelevant.

Hi all,

This hasn't happened yet on this thread but this is politics and it gets emotional so can I remind you of the personal abuse rules.

Attack the argument not the person and please respect the fact that people are allowed to have differing views from you.

If there's a post appears on here that you think breaks our rules please report it.

Thanks,

This is a bit like the fact that tomatoes are a fruit.

It may be a fact but in reality it’s widely accepted that it just doesn’t work like that and I would suggest the vast majority of people that voted her in did so in the basis that she represented the labour values.

After all... Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit... wisdom is not putting one in a fruit salad.

People voted for her because she represented Labour. I do not agree with anyone jumping ship and retaining their position as an MP. They should do it come election time or step down as an MP.

Agreed Phil, anyone in an elected office who stood under the umbrella of a political party only to change mid-term should really step down and seek re-election.

Ally Simcock.
Didn't she defect from the Supporters Club citing illness only to rock up as Normans fans liason bod?
Seems her beliefs and principles are to serve Ally Simcock.  I wonder what personal benefit there is for her in her latest defection.
I believe she was offered a cabinet position. Which means more money, more power, more limelight

We wouldn’t have gotten rid of Norman in Spring 19 if she was still at the SC. Not a chance. We needed Mark Porter.

So in a roundabout way her nest feathering defection at the time actually inadvertently did us a favour.

She actually sent B&G a grovelling email when it looked like the Synectics deal was a go...

What you are saying makes no sense.  The individual is voted in on their political viewpoint.   For example, are you likely to vote for someone who is a member of the EDL on the basis that you like the look of them, without actually sharing those political views yourself?

Personality really only enters the equation when we’re considering the PM.  The rest from there down are pretty much faceless and unknown to the average man in the street.

Legally is 100% true. Reflects a general lack of interest in the UK if people are only voting based on the personality of the PM. For the most parts politicians below MPs live in the local community so its not that hard to find out what they are like as people. The problem is a lot of people turn even local elections into a referendum on the Prime Minister in power at that particular time. What people should be doing is finding out who the best people are to deal with local issues. Ironically the competence and integrity of a politician is probably more important at a local than national level. A bog standard MP has little influence on policy whereas a Councillor  has far more influence on local spending decisions.
