Match thread: Port Vale v Rochdale (friendly)

I know it's only a friendly and they're playing at a low, uncommitted intensity but that was quite poor defending then, fortunately cleared a weak effort off the line. If this was a league game people would have raging at them for being carved open that easily. Just looking a little casual, a bit switched off at the back, the main culprit being Leggey just having a little jog and not tracking the runner.

Enjoyable game so far. Rochdale are easy on the eye and you can tell that they're from the league above. We've played well and put together some nice stuff when we've had the ball. Conlon the pick of the bunch for us so far even without the penalty conversion. Think Mills has done alright against that tricky wide player, Tavares. Rodney looks raw but clearly has attributes that can be worked on. Visser looking very much an able deputy for Brown too.

Going in one up, somewhat against the run of play where Rochdale have dominated the midfield. Two good saves by Visser have kept us in it, though Rodney and Theo have missed reasonable chances. Thought we've looked vulnerable at the back where we've been exposed on the left and can count ourselves lucky that Done missed after rounding Visser. For me, we've missed Gibbo, Smudger and Montano, and especially Joyce in the middle. How much we depend on him. Pick of the Vale players for me - Wozza and Conlon. It's all about opinions!

Agree with most of that. Slightly disappointing from us, look a bit slow and no real pattern of play, really missing a dictator in midfield. Mills and Whitehead ok, Visser probably best man. Rodney shown a couple of nice bits, but also some not so good, but Robinson anonymous so far, really not sure this system suits him. They are a good side, Tavares and Newby both tricky and Done and Ryan always seem to well against us. Their goalie will be one to watch in future I’m sure, very confident and commanding.
