The software ifollow uses to stream video is some American stuff that is predictably full of DRM/digital rights management.

They don’t want you to be able to screen mirror/chromecast it as part of an anti-piracy strategy.

You’d be surprised but HDMI has built in DRM encryption, called HDCP. The strictness of which depends on the age of the TV/monitor, but it’s why the people who stream Sky or BT Sport or whatever on the internet have to do it through fancy broadcasting equipment, or know the codes to crack the encryption keys.

The point is, this isn’t a failing of ifollow, nor are you doing anything wrong in trying to get it to work. It deliberately doesn’t work/gets scrambled.

Hi Doha, I’ll ask on here rather than pm as your answer might be informative to others and you seem to be several places higher than me on the techsavy league table...

Last Saturday I paid for and accessed the Scunny match while at a different address, via a windows laptop, Chrome browser and streamed to a tv via hdmi to hdmi cable. A bit fiddly but I got there in the end. Last Saturday I set up at home, likewise same windows laptop, Chrome browser, hdmi to hdmi this time to a pretty new smart tv we got a couple of months ago.

I put in the “voucher code” as per email from the club and it said words to the effect of “invalid voucher”.  I next tried lower case letters (the email was upper case), still no joy. I eventually put my credit card details in  and tried again, from memory it still said invalid voucher but when I wandered onto another page of the website it said I had access to the game and I was able to click my way to watching it on the tv screen. I did wonder if some security measure was implicated.

I’m maybe less interested in what might have happened than in what you might suggest I try next time. Imhave an iPad mini and an iPhone but for obvious reasons would like to watch on a bigger screen, though maybe not at the expense of paying twice!

What do you reckon?

No it won't be a security measure. The ifollow system is built on the cheap. It's likely off the shelf commerce software, rebranded.

I didn't use a voucher code but it's my understanding was a lot of the confusion on Saturday was that you had to set up a valid payment method, even though you had a code. The system wanted to see a valid payment method and then when you applied the code, it would change the balance due to zero. It still had to process a payment to allow access, even if that payment was £0.00.

I'd recommend everyone with a code try to 'buy' the match on Saturday now, or within the week, instead of leaving it until the last minute on Saturday, so it's been 'bought' and you will have access to the stream.

For you specifically, I'd check your online banking to see if £10 went out, or whether it actually accepted the voucher code without indicating so. If the tenner went out, ring or email the club, or start a live chat with ifollow support through the Vale site, and get the money back.

Ah, I’ve just checked and payment went out for Scunny game but as yet not for Crawley game, though the transaction record does seem to be a few days behind. I’ll keep an eye on it but if the money doesn’t go out in the next few days, my assumption that the apparent non-acceptance of my voucher code followed by apparent charging of £10 via website meant I was charged may be wrong! Generally, when you put a voucher code in payment on a “shopping basket” it alters the price to reflect the discount. Might be worth others checking bank statements as well.

I should also add, I opened an account for the Scunny game and therefore assumed my details would have been saved. (I’ve paid for a small number of Tuesday games in the past as well). However, I seem to remember, I had to put the whole lot in again.

I’m still fuming about yesterday.

We’ve had a fantastic 12 months having amazing owners that have done more in 1 year than anyone in the past 20, what seems to have be a very shrewd Manager (best since Adams) and have arguably the most competitive squad for a decade, so I was very excited for the new season and bought a season ticket for the first time since the 90’s.

To be let down by invalid codes / dodgy tech was a bit of a kicker to be honest.

So how are those ST’s that suffered from yesterday’s fiasco going to be compensated????

I Follow offering us a free pass to the Exeter game would be suitable compensation. Assuming it works.

When using ifollow I generally ensure that I buy the pass earlier in the day. I think that the checkout might get overloaded close to kick off. I used my code on Saturday a couple of hours before kick off.

I have also found the following methods to work:

HDMI cable from various windows 10 laptops to a TV

Screen mirroring from a windows 10 laptop to a firestick (go to the firestick settings and select mirroring. On the laptop press winkey and p then select connect to a wireless display and choose your firestick)

Screen mirroring from a Samsung phone to various smart tvs

Installing the ifollow app on a minix x8-h plus android box

Using the chrome browser in desktop mode on a Nvidia Shield and a T95q android box

Because all of these methods work I can't imagine there is a drm issue and it is has to be an issue elsewhere that people are struggling with on getting it onto their tvs. If using a hdmi cable if you are not getting any picture at all on your tv it may be worth checking that you have the laptop setup to use the hdmi port. (Press winkey and p then select either duplicate or second screen only)

Fair enough that. Doesn't surprise me.

If that was the case and the voucher codes were the issue would it not have been easier for folk to just pay and then get the buggers to refund it retrospectively, rather than trying the code over and over again for 2 hours?

Possibly because we didn't know that paying for it worked until after the game??

mine just keeps buffering continuously... is that my laptop's fault (an old one)? my broadband's fault? or the fact we are still using windows 8 (not 10 as others seem to be using) . Got all the way there, paid etc. congratulations you have been successful etc.  clicked on 'watch it live now' .... and it's still bl***y buffering !!!

As a season ticket holder I will continue to try and watch the home games that are free to me. Prospect of paying for any other games absolutely zilch.
I have just been contacted by efl who apologised for problem on the Crawley game. They are refunding me £10 I paid as I couldn't access game until half time although I had the season ticket code. Thanks.

Exactly !   I'm sure the "advertising" that iFollow is currently experiencing would cripple any other company if it didn't have a strangle hold on its potential customer base. I dont see how iFollow could manage in an open market and if I were one of the EFL clubs I would be trying to get a vote to oust it and get a professional setup in its place . I think one of their BIGGEST problems is communications?  There is no definitive set of instructions on how to set up to watch the matches on the many and varied platforms .   Why not set out clear and unambiguous instructions for say 5 different platforms - say which Browsers will work OK, Those that are Better and those that are crap.  basically I'm sure they haven't set up these instructions because they havent done in house trials. I'm sure if we could look behind the scenes at iFollow there would be two 6th formers playing at being at work .  Yes - I'll keep on trying my season ticket code but have they any chance of my purchasing the project - as much chance as the wife giving birth to quads - she's 70 !  A friend of mine says that iFollow is as user friendly as a cornered Rat.
