I do think that it looks like we are heading down the development route and i think thats great as now it will be done properly in the hope of polishing a player to eventually sell on like Hugill

Not so sure that is the long-term direction but short-term you could be right. Askey spent a long time at Macclesfield as Youth Team Coach and there are a lot of players in the EFL who came through their system. The owners are committed to youth development as part of the club's role in the community. IF Campbell-Gordon comes through this season the 3 of out first team would be home grown. Even if its just Smith and Gibbons you have to go back to 89 with Sproston (about to retire), Earle and Porter  briefly in the same team for us to have more youth team players regularly in the 11. I'd be happy if we turned out a first team player every 2 or 3 seasons. Crewe obviously turn out 2 or 3 a season.

Tbf Phil was having a pop as he was told about turning the transfer thread off topic,so he was just being a bit of a twonk.... my comment was to do with transfers and the young lads we were looking at on trial but a new thread is fine by me i wont run to teacher about it

A development squad with the main aim of developing players for the first team sounds like a good plan to me. 🙂

I don't see how that's sustainable with a first team squad of approx 22 players.

Doesn't have to be a "squad", could just be 4 or 5 players for example.

Some could go out on loan with local non league sides and still train at Vale with our facilities and with Frank Sinclairs input.
