Fans Returning to VP

So hundreds of Vale fans don't want a pre match pint, they then don't queue together to get in the ground. When inside they then sit apart as instructed and wouldn't dream of tearing up any tape that indicates a seat shouldn't be sat on, even though they've sat on the same seat for 25 years. When Vale score they don't jump up hugging and shaking hands. They don't chant, shout at the ref  or sing at any point and completely ignore Glad All Over if Vale score. At the final whistle  they all leave the ground seperately whilst social distancing and don't all spill out at the same time to mingle freely. Of course the thought of another pint or two in Burslem doesn't cross their minds as they walk home  in silence whilst wearing their masks.

It looks like only season ticket holders will be allowed if it happens at all this season.  They might all want a pint but they won't get in the pubs as it stands.  I guess they would be expected to queue socially distanced, possibly wearing masks, and I'd guess this would be stewarded/policed.  I would imagine that seats would be allocated on a match by match basis and again this would be controlled by stewards once in the ground.  I wouldn't worry about Vale scoring at present but again masks will probably be compulsory so you can shout as loud as you want, into your mask, with nobody outside your bubble within 1 metre.  At the final whistle the ground could simply be emptied a section at a time, fans remaining in their seats until called.

Whatever the guidelines, it just requires the majority conform, as is currently the case with the wearing of masks in shops.

I think that most fans will abide by any rules if the choice is returning to live football in grounds, or not, whilst you clearly think everyone is an anarchist.

Has it been reported why exactly October was initially given as the date that fans could return to stadiums?

The season began in September, six months after lockdown. I'm sure clubs could easily have been ready for then. They were certainly ready this month.

Did the government initially set October to see how the infection rates were once schools and universities went back, and then cancelled it when they saw the infection rate going up?

Fans could easily have safely returned to stadiums in September. But now the government are trying to scare/reason with the public into following social distancing then it would clash with that message if fans were allowed back in now.

I think it's fair to say that football and football fans got screwed over on this one.

Gullis managed to get in the ground and watch the game on Saturday.

Theres a few who are in the know etc. Alastair Campbell got in to watch Burnley.

I thought Phil Sherwin came across okay last night, but no disrespect to Phil how is he different to any other fan ? Yes he does stats but he is neither an employee of the football club or Radio Stoke, unless the stats thing counts him as an employee maybe.

If that is the case then i guess he's entitled to go, if he isn;t an employee then hopefully i'll be co-commentator at Oldham.

Phil is an employee of the club - he's the programme editor.  He also works for the Sentinel, like Mike Baggaley, who has done the co-commentator role without anyone complaining.

Spot on,Phil knows his stuff, especially regarding Vale,he's a historian, author and excellent football quizzer. In my opinion and with all due respect,Phil is a lot more qualified to commentate on RS than some of the ex-Vale players they have on?

It's frustrating that none of us can get in, very frustrating. You see all the dozens of empty seats around Vale Park and there seems no logical reason why a few hundred people could not be present.

I'm playing devil's advocate a little bit but even if you started with season ticket holders, say, attending only 1 home game in every 2, that would mean around 2,000 people (at most, as not everyone would attend) spread around four corners of the ground. You'd have 6-7 seats each and surely be able to keep your distance. Outside in the fresh air.

It's frustrating and bemusing in equal measure but if the government won't budge then there's nothing we can do about it.

Because I'm on my phone I'm not that great at putting links up

On the official Norwich city Twitter they are advertising that you can go to watch the game on a big screen for a tenner WTF is going on !!

Does anybody remember watching Norwich play last season when they became the first club to let fans into Carrow Road after lockdown.

The camera's panned round the ground to show some fans not wearing masks and not social distancing. To think about chanting and singing on top of that as well as social distancing to and from the ground will put many people off from attending.

I did put that as my caveat, that is fine then , was just asking the question i wasn't complaining.

I didn't know he was an employee or press, so that is fine.

That middle section above the dugouts last night there were a considerable amount of spectators. I'm sure many were club officials from both sides but there did appear a lot there to me.

I wonder to myself if MP's who love football are still able to still sneak in and get to watch

I think there are some games being shown on big screens - in grounds and in cinemas in the London area - but don't quote me on that. I'm not 100% sure but I think I've seen that being broadcast.

Of course there have always been privileges for the ruling classes and so someone like Gullis - out of nowhere - regenerates into a massive Port Vale fan and gets in the ground while fans like me who have been supporting the Club for over 57 years can't get near the place.  Others don't miss games home or away and are in the same boat. Another example of one rule for them and one for us. I'm sure he isn't the only one and there does appear to be several dozen folk inside most grounds - and not just team officials. I wonder who they all are.

I don't think you can even sit on that high wall now behind Lorne Street. Hasn't it been covered in barbed wire for ages?

Maybe we could bribe one the householders on the Hamil. How much can you see from those bedroom windows? Mind you we can't even do that now we're in Tier Two.

The wait goes on.

600 tickets sold for Stafford Rangers FA cup game. Sold within the first 10 minutes apparently.

I see David Moyes has had a pop at something, only caught the end of it but he was on about being able to watch football in cinemas? and also at clubs indoors but you cant go outdoors and watch it.
So i take people are being shown games in a cinema?
