Sentinel: 'Massive question' - Port Vale's concerns about start date for 2020/21 season

Seems to me that the EFL can’t organise things very well. Why not let the EFL leagues 1 and 2 start their respective league when we can get fans back into the stadium. What does it matter if we over run with our league and play offs? If Wembley isn’t available then use another ground. Some clubs clearly need the income from getting fans into the ground. Aside from this, clubs are asking fans to pay for a ‘full price’ season ticket but will not be getting a full season. Things seem a little out of kilter.

A few clubs fans have suggested starting with 3 weeks of EFL Trophy football if it needs to be played. Then start the League properly when fans can return. We know the EFL Trophy gets limited attendances and it would act as a good pre season friendly scenario.

Excellent idea

From a purely selfish point, it may benefit Vale if the season does start on 12 September, as we will probably be far more ready than many others in the division, and it may be that some clubs end up playing weakened teams until they can afford to bring back/sign their full squads.

Vale could rack up a fair few points in that first month or so.

I personally feel that leagues 1 and 2 could probably get fans in by 12th September as attendances are less than Premier/Championship. Clubs could realistically ensure social distancing etc. Are adhered to but unfortunately Boris has decided to make one decision for all tiers of football instead of looking at each league separately. Either way, fans should be able to watch all league games. Good idea about the EFL Trophy though.

If certain  L2 clubs can come up with safe plans and limited attendances why not use their games as trials for L1 and above,  and gradually increase their capacities? Nothing seems to be fixed where Govt corona plans are concerned.

That’s a good idea.
