Must have been particularly galling for Stockport, who were in the last play off place when the season was halted. Especially as Barnet, who eventually claimed the last place on points per game, were actually 11th at the same stage.

Wouldn’t it have been more galling to be Barnet with four games in hand and losing out? A win, draw and two losses would out them in that spot. Not a lot to ask for a top half team.

Possibly, but Stockport did have the points on the board. And of course they and Barnet still had 7 and 11 games respectively to play in the curtailed season so who knows what would have happened ?

Points on the board because they played 4 more though. Barnet had 8 points From their last 4 games and needed half that from the four in hand. It’s not a perfect answer, but it was easily the fairest outcome. Vale had far more of an argument than Stockport do.

Wouldn't mind Harrogate or Halifax myself for a new away day

Up until the 80’s The Shay was also the home to the Halifax Dukes speedway team, who’s race day was a Saturday.

So, if you had the inclination, you could watch Halifax football in the afternoon, hide inside the ground after the match and then watch the speedway for free for “tapes up” at 7pm !

Some good shots in the clip below of the old Shay before its redevelopment after the speedway closed.

Good days !

Not really 4 games in hand and a 13 goal better goal difference suggests Barnet are the better team I This afternoons result confirms that !    🙂

  • 2 weeks later...

As the cliche goes, there's a long way to go, but do we prefer one team over the other to get promoted?

County is closer and they'd bring more fans. A bit of an A50 derby I suppose and always decent crowds. A good day trip is Nottingham.

But Harrogate is new to us all and on paper would pose less of a threat than a rejuvenated, wealthier County. Any preference?
