David Fitzpatrick signed - 1 year deal

Cheap backup which probably frees Campbell Gordon up for a loan somewhere.

My Friend who is a Macc season ticket holder said he was unspectacular but solid but also very very cost effective as he was one of the lower earners at Macc so a very low risk addition.

Pushes Crookes further away from a game at left back which should please many.

The Fitzpatrick signing probably suggests 3 things:

  1. Askey doesn't see Ryan Campbell-Gordon as a 1st team player and will likely go on loan
  2. Crookes will likely be used at CB this season (unless Montano and Fitzpatrick are both injured/suspended together)
  3. Mitch Clarke won't be returning

Only just spotted this statement about the keeper from Askeys interview in the sentinel.

“I think last year we would probably have got a loan in if anything had happened to Browny. But at this stage we would see how Dino went for a few games.”

Proves that Askey never thought Maddison was good enough.

Yep, agree with all of those. Seems a sensible signing and we have options of an attacking LB in Monty and a more orthodox one in Fitzpatrick with Mills/Crookes able to fill in for emergencies.

I thought Fitzpatrick looked leggy in the Blackpool game but I appreciate it was probably his first game in a while and he may have been behind the others in training. Askey obviously knows him really well and rates him. I hope that like Robinson people judge him after he's appeared in some Vale games rather than on the basis of half a friendly game.

He also talks about Visser being consistent. Perhaps that was the issue with Maddison, with him being a young 'un... He looked decent in the FLT game he played in but I guess it's what levels he maintains in the training/practice games which also count.

Didn't Askey say Fitzpatrick was only here to get fit ? Maybe a back up if Clark wouldn't come back which now appears to be the case.

Thought it he looked poor against Blackpool , but is solid enough for this league and a player Askey will know well.

Dino next and I'd imagine that's us done in the market.

Good week at the vale.

Agreed. Clarke was on a fair wedge so no chance of him returning.

Wasnt impressed by what I saw in the friendly of fitzrpatrick. However against Hamilton and far fitter side I’ll let him off for that. Steady enough signing kind of strikes me as a similar signing to what brisley was. Definite back up and I suppose if we have injuries further up it allows Monty to push on.

1 year deal. No risk. If he performs well gets another deal, if not then we can let go.

Think we will sign visser, no need for a world beater sub gk as they’re not going get a game unless brown is injured.

Would still like a creative Cm the lad from macc (osadebe) who bossed the game last season would do nicely.

One thing I will add is that it’s shame for rcg. He’s always looked decent, he’s still young but we should be using are youth players far more imo. Especially for back up roles, otherwise they’ll never be good enough. He needs to go to a side in the conference on Loan to really test him.
