I don't like McKirdy... But I get the impression the fans of the team he plays for love him.

Could that be us?

I was going to say the same. Bit of a Hughesy character. Love him if he plays for you, hate him when he's doing all his antics against you. For all we know he could be a dick head to the opposition and absolutely brilliant in the dressing room. There's no doubt he's a very good player, so let's just see what happens.

With regards to Mckirdy, if he is training with us it be because he is local and just keeping fit as a favour to his grandfather who is a personal friend of John Rudge. On the other hand if he is training with us it could be with a view to signing for us as there is no doubt he has quality for the second division. It could have been a kick up the back side he needed when the Carlisle manager said what he did about him. He is now 23 years old and his previous antics on the football field were more akin to a spoilt kid. The things said by the Carlisle manager might have stung him and be enough to make him knuckle down and let his football do the talking and forget all the diving etc. Anyone who can get McKirdy to play without histrionics will have a decent player on their books.

If we have a bit of scope to replace Browne, I think we'd be better off holding off signing anyone until near the end of the window.

I don't see anybody coming into the club now with little or no pre-season behind them and instantly challenging for a starting place.

I agree, a Tommy Mac type of player and he scores a few as well, if he's good enough for Askey then he's good enough for me..

Agree with this. Worth a look and seeing how he is with the squad and wether he has manned up a bit. I trust JA on this one. I’m sure he will make it clear in no uncertain terms what the standard is. 11 goals would come in very handy though.

Which is exactly why I mentioned him. I hope it was only as a favour that he was with us.

Has a reputation of being a knob BUT is it just that? maybe he is just keeping fit as was linked to bigger clubs,if we are looking at him then Askey does his homework on players so wont touch him if he is a knob,no doubting he has ability though

I am with Mellor on this one,if he has a rep as a problem then askey wont touch him,we all hated hughes against us yet most of us loved him here and how he wound fans up..... the lad is 23 maybe during all whats gone on he has had a look at himself, also he could be the kind of player the club take a look at to make us some money in the future like Rodney and Gibbo might do

Hated Mckirdy the cocky little <ovf censored> against us but IF he comes here and wears the shirt then i will back him 100%

Question is if say Askey signed another left back and pushed Montano up to replace Browne then we only have three wingers so if one gets injured....also would Montano start ahead of Amoo with Worral playing on the right....as ever it's Askey's call but with Fitzpatrick and Montano plus Crooke (and Mills) all being able to play left back why sign another and with one injury have no wing cover on the bench....gotta be another specialist winger essentially.

But we have lost a winger in Browne.

So we can push Monty up to replace Browne and bring another LB in with Fitzpatrick.

We could but only if Askey sees Montano as a better winger than fullback. My guess is he doesn't.

He had a strange relationship with Carlisle fans and got involved with a couple of arguments in the stands. There is definitely a good player there. Some Vale fans have a downer on him mainly because of a rather innocuous push.

Big pluses he can play on the wing or as an inside forward. Seems pretty two footeded. Decent pace. Scores goals and often match winning goals.

Downsides were covered off by his ex manager.

Reminds me of Lee Hendrie in terms of character. I think he probably will go somewhere and settle for 18 months, get a move higher up and then the wheels will come off again. Probably needs a manager and a club which will put there arm around him. If he is on the radar it would certainly be interesting. Pullis probably got as much out of Hendrie as anyone ... now they were strange bedfellows!
