Transfer Rumours Pre-Season

If we were able to offer Maynard a financial deal that put us in the running to sign him (better than Bradford), I would have thought we could have been in for someone of a similar calibre. Hopefully Robinson can do the business but will he play ahead of Pope, Cullen, and even Rodney who seems to be having a decent pre season. Maynard would have been a definite stater. I trust askey to hopefully get the best out of him, but I’m not as excited as our communications director suggested I should be.
Saying that, as has been pointed out his record recently has been good, and if it had been someone else with a similar record I’d probably be more excited.

He's scored a goal every 2 games in the last 2 years how can we be disappointed in this signing

Because some people are naturally miserable as sin. He wasn't great for us in his brief spell with us some years back but going from his record lately he has clearly improved. I'd say on paper it's a solid signing although it doesn't come with the excitement that signing Maynard would have.

Judging a player on only a few appearances 4 years ago isn’t really the way to judge a player properly is it? Seems to have had a decent goal scoring record recently so I’m not sure what’s not to like with the signing. Other than the fact it’s not Maynard of course.

A few appearances!? 14 is just under a 1/3rd of the season. He scored twice. 6 goals a season.

Well simply form my point of view I saw in 15 odd times in a vale shirt and he was beyond bad. Recent goal record is good but I’m still massively underwhelmed.

So you're just going to completely ignore his record since then? I thought he was pretty toss when he was on loan here but we are a different side then than we are now, and hopefully he can show that he's a different player than he was. His record over the last few years is very respectable.

Few = 15/16?

He was awful. Let’s hope he’s improved because he was as really poor last time for us.

The obvious question is, out of a fit Pope, Cullen, Rodney and Robinson, in what order would you put them for the centre forward position? With Maynard we would have been signing a definite starter.

I’m very underwhelmed and it’s a bit of a comedown from Maynard. The whole Maynard situation was handled poorly in terms of how we were led to believe he was due to sign and all the hints on social media etc. For us then to announce Theo Robinson.

I’m not sure if Robinson will even be a starter, is he any better than Cullen?

I’m not writing off Robinson but naturally everyone will just compare him to what we could have had in Maynard. If we’d have signed Maynard I’d have been confident of a top 3 challenge.
