Transfer Rumours Pre-Season

If anyone is expecting us to sign a player who has, in the last 3 years, scored 20 goals in a single season in the EFL, they are going to be disappointed. In fact, I can't remember us doing that this century (bar a 37 year old Hughesy).

We need to add goals throughout the side, especially from midfield, but bar Swindon none of the promoted sides had a proper '20 goal' man, mostly having top scorers around 11-14.

Couldn't agree more and much as the social media boo boys won't like it, some of our more successful forwards this century have come to us with appalling records at other clubs.

  • Leon Constantine scored 1 in 17 for Torquay before hitting 26 the following season for us
  • AJ Leitch-Smith scored 2 in 38 for Yeovil before hitting 13 the following season for us
  • Loanee Craig Davies had gone 11 months without a goal and then hit seven in 24 for us
  • Or even Mr Pope who had 1 in 20 for Rotherham before joining us

I'm not advocating we go out and get a striker with an awful record but more pointing out that one club's disaster can be another's success. It's worth judging players on their performances for Vale in our side and system and not judging all signings by what they did at their former clubs. Not that some fans will listen though...

I would think they would extend that.
To give the same time period between whenever the season starts to the deadline day as a normal season would have.

Based on a possible Sept 12 start,  which is not firm yet. So who knows?

Transfer window will be open for approx. 12 weeks between 27 July and 16 October - so roughly the same as normal? (and ending approx 1 month after the season is likely to start on 12 September, so again similar to normal when the window shuts at the end of August)

Just a reminder, to those bemoaning the lack of goals...again!...had we managed to win our last game, instead of it being one of our 15 draws, we would have finished 2 places higher, and in the playoffs. Just one more goal! The old "1 - nil to the Arsenal"  wasn't just a song, it was a fact! If you don't, concede you don't lose. I'm happy with this squad - it's been a pleasure to go through a close season and keep hold of every player we wanted to...any new signings, including young Rodders, improve the squad. Another, quality centre-half would be good for cover, as with an experienced keeper; an attacking midfielder and, maybe another striker would also be good but I feel we have a strong side, now - we could be our own worst enemies - have to guard against complacency. But, the familiarity of having a squad go through a season together and start the next one, together, may give us an edge over a few teams?

I always felt myself it was the defence that needed tightening due to tbe amount of leads we lost. If all those draws were converted to wins where we were originally leading.

After the signing of mills was announced earlier heard were in for another striker who should join before the end of the week?

Heard he played for morcambe last season and was a fan favourite but wasn’t offered a deal there.

Any ideas who?

Only one I can think of is Kevin Ellison. Could probably do a job on a one year deal?
