Burnley away 1983

In light of the half time score at Wigan it brought back painful memories at Turf Moor in 1983.

Seem to recall standing in the paddock with their fans separated by fencing and netting.

6-0 down at half time. I'm sure they made it 7-0 by 49 minutes.

And if my memory isn't playing tricks I'm sure Eamonn O'Keefe hit the post for us.

Any one else attend that nightmare ?

I went. Saw quite a few away disasters in years around that time, Southend away Friday night 0-5, Huddersfield  0-7, Barnsley 2-6, Mansfield 0-5 (Kevin Kent scoring for them) Torquay 0-4 midweek bonfire night and snow showers , Wigan 3-5 after being 3 up

This is well before my time, I spotted Richard Madeley at the very start of the clip but the only player I can put a name to is Barry Siddall. I only ever saw play live that time he turned up in goal for Preston at the end of his career.

My first time at Burnley was the opening day of the promotion season in 93, I went to the abandoned match on Boxing Day when we were winning but my dad refused to go to the rearranged game because they charged away fans full price.

This must have been not long before it went sour for Bond at Turf Moor, when their fans turn against a manager they don't do it by halves.

Yes we sure had some pastings.

Blackpool at home was also horrendous think Paul Stewart got 3 or 4

Happy days 😂

Eventful season that 1986/87,with Andy Jones getting 37 goals, including a hat-trick against Fulham in a 6-0 away win.

Rudgie certainly knew a striker when he saw one and attempted to sign Steve Bull?

Also remember 2-6 midweek away at Wrexham and Connaughton asking the Vale fans to keep the ball as long as possible when it came into the away end

Seem to remember that game was played on a Thursday. Begs the question why ?

Wasn’t at the Torquay game (don’t think) but was at the others. Was also at Southend for another 5 goal drubbing a few years later. The joys of watching Vale away eh !

72/3 season was something of an enigma. Overall we had a decent season finishing 6th Under Gordon Lee.

But along the way came a 0-7 defeat at Rotherham, 0-5 reversals at the afore mentioned Southend, Brentford & excruciatingly Wrexham. Throw in a 0-4 at Bournemouth and a 1-4 at Eastville and following Vale away that season could be difficult ! Thankfully I only witnessed the Southend & Bristol R defeats !
