Match Thread Rewind: Huddersfield v Port Vale 1998

Recommended Posts

So, it's time. This is one that I personally have been really looking forward to as I don't think the full 90 mins has been shown anywhere before.

It's the final game of 1997-98 and Port Vale need a win from their final game to stay up.

Please tell your Vale friends (I know a lot of you have social media accounts) if you think they'd be interested as it would be nice to have a good crowd in for this game!

The full 90 mins? How did anyone manage to get their hands on that!? It was never broadcast to my knowledge?

A lot of these aren't "broadcast" games.

This one is the official Huddersfield video which someone bought on VHS. In the 90s the "full game" video was all the rage.

So, as it was never broadcast, as I said earlier, this will be the first time the full game has been aired online and it's a cracking match.

I'm personally really excited and pleased to be able to show to you this evening.

Yeah I've seen the goals back on a you tube clip before but never seen the full game. The game put on sky that day was stoke vs man city which I think man city won 5 2.

Just over two hours till kick-off *

* this game comes with a free real crowd (not artificial crowd noise)

Funny isn't it. This result sent Stoke and Manchester City down to the third division and yet now this season everyone is cock-a-hoop to get a visit to 'mega-giants' Man City and are happy with a 4-1 defeat

How football has changed in such a relative short period of time and not for the better really

....and while we watch this game and delight at the skill and endeavour of one Gareth Ainsworth, the very man himself is currently shouting out tactics and encouragement to his Wycombe team as they try to win the first division play-off and get into the Championship

...and I hope they do too, especially for ex-BBC presenter Bill Turnbull who is a big fan and has inoperable cancer

I liked Jansson too.

And yet another vital goal from Martin Foyle who must have scored in almost all these Monday night games!

Ha! I'll have to count it up but yeah he's probably well into double figures on these games...

Hope you enjoyed that. It's one I really wanted to add to the OVF YouTube channel and if you did miss it, it's there to watch in full anytime.
