social distancing at vale park

The subject of sport attendance was brought up in the early days of the pandemic.

It was mentioned by both Jenny Harries and Patrick Vallence that the problem would not be inside the stadia as the air would dissipate the virus. The problem as they saw it would be how people got to the game (crowded buses, mixed households in cars etc) and how supporters socialised ( meeting in pubs and the like).

As we can now use buses freely and pubs (in England) are allowed to trade, haven’t most the medical concerns mentioned in those early tv updates either been eased or even addressed by now ?

Or have the goalposts been moved yet again ?

I think It's early days with pubs and buses tbh we'll see over the next month if we gets spikes in the virus. It's going toilet at half time etc in a stadium how do you do all that safely once your in you seats.

I wonder if all league two clubs will be treated the same or will some be allowed to have spectators in the ground and others not? Vale Park, as we've said, can accommodate 4,000 spread around 4 sides but the much smaller, tighter grounds can't.

I was thinking the same,MkDons would be able to do it, probably Bolton, off the top of my head can’t think of many others.

Most don't get 4000 gates so they should be OK without any away fans as well

MK Dons stayed up mate.

Vale, Bolton, Bradford, Tranmere , Colchester, Orient should all be able to accommodate fans.

Salford, Macc, Vegans, Exeter all have very small capacity and may only be able to have really small attendance.

Bradford would be a conundrum but I don't know their sales of the 50 pence season ticket this time, usually get about 15'000 of which maybe 6000 would be allowed

Mk Dons would be harder than you think. The ground isn’t a problem, as they barely get any fans, but it is right in the middle of a busy retail park with lots of people all around.

We are better off in some ways. I have heard they would ban away fans which would mean we could use the Hamil end. Close say the railway and that leaves Lorne Street, By-Cars and Hamil with a fairly big distance between them.

No need to close the Railway, it would make sense to keep it open thus allowing the fans to be spread out more and at the same time providing extra toilet and snack bar facilities to lessen the traffic in other areas.

Unless they have wealthy backers (like Salford or Forest Green) it's likely we will see several clubs with smaller grounds having real financial difficulties and possibly going into administration. And the lack of revenue is going to be compounded by closed door matches until at least mid-October. It would be nice to think that we could start the season with spectators in mid-September but we have to be sure the virus is under control over the summer or the risk is we'll have a terrible winter.

If we can’t have supporters in grounds untill October, I can’t see why we don’t delay the start of the season until October.

for one, it would save having to offer refunds again to those with season tickets, and a lot of L1 and 2 clubs can’t afford to stage games with no paying supporters.seems the obvious answer to me unless I’m missing something.

No matter the start date I can see a considerable drop in attendance even for us.

I agree with that, when it does start again, I for one, probably won’t be going in a pub before the game, and for one who hasn’t missed a game home or away for 5 seasons, I don’t fancy travelling on a coach to away games.
