Does anyone remember when Sam Johnson got a run of games in goal ahead of Chris Neal?

Weirdly, despite him having barely played, it was rumoured Celtic were interested in 'Port Vale 'keeper, Sam Johnson' (

Of course, he was inserted into the side and played probably 6 games before being dropped again.

Later transpired Celtic had wanted Utd 'keeper, Sam Johnstone. Some journo ballsed up and Big Norm rubbed his grubby mitts and got him starting ahead of the best keeper we've had in the 21st century (I don't know if this is 100% true, but its the only explanation as to how Micky Adams decided Johnson > Neal).

Point of this being that Big Norm would do anything to make a quick penny off a player, so the theories surrounding Agho don't surprise me.

Not youth team related, but on a similar vein, I always thought that the press rumours of Spurs being interested in '£2M-rated Enoch Andoh' just smacked of Smurthwaite 'tipping off' a journalist and trying to drum up interest for a cash influx into his fat back pocket. As promising as Andoh had looked, he'd only played around 10-15 games.
