Macc safe for now

The Independent Disciplinary Commission has activated the suspended 2 point penalty. However this keeps them up and Stevenage will be relegated.

They are by no means out of the woods it seems, with a fine and targets to be met to start next season.

Yes it is.

I hope they survive but it doesn't sound promising.

As a Stoke based Vale fan I'd much rather Macclesfield stay up than Stevenage, principally of course for geographical reasons but I can't say the Stevenage way, particularly under Westley, has ever enthused me. I'm sorry for their supporters if they go down as it's doubly painful in this season's circumstances but they have been rock bottom I think for most of the year. It's no consolation for them though and you wonder if they've got the finances and crowds to bounce back or will they sink like York or Torquay?

Hopefully they get their act together. Seemed to be heading the same way as Bury even before the pandemic. They may not be permitted to play in League Two next season if they don't prove they have the finances to fulfill their fixtures. That perhaps would save Stevenage at the last minute but I think they are down for now. Stevenage would also be saved if the National League doesn't take place next season, I think League Two would be expanded to 25 teams in that scenario. This is because the EFL agreed not to relegate a club if they have nothing to relegate them into.

With the way of the world at the moment, if the season does start in some fashion it would be catastrophic for Macc to lose away fans from Vale, Bradford, Oldham, Bolton.

Most of those would take the full allocation thus depriving Macc of about 150 grand upwards if you Chuck Tranmere into the pot too .

They are in a right pickle.
