Was it Houchen?

I can't remember even though I was there!

I also can't recall a better atmosphere than that among Vale fans but the home fans didn't attend in great numbers that night.

It really was a full blooded affair wasn't it?

The Kop was pretty packed though.
First time Kop came to life in second half with a liv er pool... And we immediately drowned them!!

Got to agree it was my favourite atmosphere. My memory was we never shut up.. And for once it was right.

Lots of great performances on the pitch but the fans were man of the match!!

Tackles flying in but no fouls ! Why can’t modern football be like this ?

Exactly only a couple of yellow cards crunching tackles no diving or play acting how in 30 years have we gone from this to what we get now  all new refs should be made to watch this

Swan in the book. There's a surprise.

Great effort from the Vale.

Not Liverpool's best ever side but loads of internationals in that line-up, with the likes of Rush, McMahon, McManaman, Molby, Grobbelaar, Saunders, etc.

Very enjoyable. Thanks, Rob.

Loads of great memories and every time you see these games from the Rudge era you wonder how he managed to do it, on a shoestring.

My word we had some fabulous players then, all over the park.

Terrific, Rob - another fantastic night's entertainment on a lockdown Monday. How many other fans can say they've been to Anfield and out shouted, out sung and out chanted the Kop? I was just ashtonished by the amount of noise we made. You would have thought we were at home.

Great performance by the lads too. Dean Glover in particular just dominated central defence and he can't have had many better games. Saunders and Rush, despite his goal, just got more and more frustrated. Our play down the flanks also showed just how important it is to have two specialist full backs. Really good to watch.

Watching these performances in the 90s against the likes of Derby, Liverpool, and Everton makes me think that, if we had made the top division under Rudgey, we would have made a good fist of it. Still, who knows?

That has to be my proudest day as a Vale fan. Like a few on here I have seen all the big games (and most of the dross) since the early 60’s but none match this ! Result, atmosphere, standard of opposition, everything ! Even better than the 0-0 at Highbury !

Super entertainment !

Is the 3rd round the furthest vale have been in the league cup as we have a terrible record in it?

In my lifetime I THINK the furthest we've been was the year we had the away tie at spurs.

Think that was round 4 and we'd beaten three championship teams at home rounds 1-3

QPR, Norwich and someone else

Stand to be corrected though!
