I also had Rodney down as the other main name out the door if things went well. I hope he comes back strong from his recent absence. He really is a quality player that can destroy teams when he's on it.

Agree on Rodney, but only if he can start to show his form from last season, but I don’t think he has yet. So right now out of our “assets” I think it’s Gibbo and Conlon who will be attracting interest. I also think that Worrall may have one last move in him if he carries on his form too, I’m sure some clubs would take a punt on him for a couple of years.

Barrow Preview!

Loads to talk about this week. Whitehead, Askey, Leicester friendly all on the menu. Then Barrow, who are not too far behind us and are on a good run. Do you we stick with the way we're doing things or switch it up a bit? Let us know!

Barrow Review!

A come from behind victory at Vale Park. Plenty of character and strength shown, as well as tactical nous as we go in down at half time but score 3 in the second half to cap a fine victory. Plenty of debate about the performances involved. Followed up by a quick preview of the Mansfield game on Tuesday. They're on a terrible run of form, but beat us convincingly both times last year. Is this the moment to turn the screw on an already under the pressure team?

Mansfield Review!

A point gained on the road rather than 2 lost as a fantastic following at Field Mill see Vale have an off-form evening at Mansfield. We talk through the positives - Tom Pett, Covolan penalty save and a superb free-kick from Tom Conlon. And cover the not-so-goods as well. Apologies for the sound quality, normal service will resume on Friday!

Just to jump on to your upcoming conversation about how teams have singled out players. I disagree with jonnys point about the 3 being Worrall, Garrity and Conlon. It’s not happened too often where we’ve been stopped but I think if you look at the last few games then Garritys drop in form coincides with the injury he picked up. I don’t think he’s been the same since then.

But have a look back at a few of our goals, if memory serves me correctly I think the main fulcrum of our attacking play with wingbacks has been wingback into forward, forward back to Conlon, Conlon out to wingback who’s made a run behind their fullback, wingback cuts it back for a chance. Garrity arriving in the box relys on the wingback getting wide to pull it back but he hasn’t been making those runs, but we’ve seen proctor and politic offer that instead.  So for me the players that have been stopped recently (but actually not that often) have been Worrall, Gibbo, Conlon, proctor and Wilson and the link up play they offer to create chances. The barrow first half was a perfect example of this, we had nothing to offer once the wingbacks had their space denied when barrow doubled up on them and they also screened off the ball into out forwards feet too.

Yep for me, it was Conlon who looks to get bottled up the most. Then to a lesser extent Worrall and Pett. I wouldn't include Garrity in that conversation. For me, you can get round the opposition zeroing in on specific players by the others stepping up and using the space they've been afforded. It's happened in some games, and then not in others.

You make a good point about the wingbacks. I've said before that if you don't get those two attacking early they easily get pushed back in to more of a full back role and we lose some attacking edge. It's incredibly important that the wingbacks set their stall out early in the games.

Does anyone else have anything to add on the thought that teams are now more wise to how we want to play, and how they stop us from playing? I'll pick the best stuff up for tomorrow's pod.

The past few games I've seen teams pressing us a lot more. This seems to stifle us going forward, not because we're unconfident on the ball when being pressed, but because the players in our system (our wing backs) who would be able to exploit the space that is created by the opposition pressing, are the ones being pressed.

Colchester Preview!

We're joined by friend of the show Andy (aka Santa on OVF) to look back at the week just gone. We discuss if we've been found out a little bit and need to change things up and whether Rodney deserves to go straight back in with Proctor likely out for a while. We then look at the Colchester game. It looks like a great game to get back on track for Vale, with Colchester languishing in 19th position. What do you think?

Colchester Review!

A review of an excellent performance at home to Colchester. Goals from Gibbons, Wilson and Martin keep the good form going! Talking points about pace, Smith and Gibbo as well as 3 different picks for Man of the Match. A happy place to be after a great game!

Enjoyed the preview with @Santa it’s good to have a different viewpoint every so often. The discussion point of bringing Rodney in was right on the money too, I thought he had a good game.

Yep I thought he was great. Good to see so many things we discuss coming in to games!

Crawley Away!

We look at a couple of things in more detail that we've discussed in recent weeks. Tom Conlon and switching from 3 to 4 at the back the main topics. We go through the Supporters Club meeting and then discuss the Crawley game. Plenty of discussion on the ref unfortunately. Crawley have only won 1 of their last 5, but had a rough run of games against decent teams. Can we add to their misery, and will Clarkey switch it up again? Let us know!

Unfortunately I think the ref will have a pivotal impact on the game. If I were their manager I'd be telling them to go down at every opportunity, especially in the peno box, because he's bound to be giving them the benefit of the doubt (which is putting it mildly). On a normal day, I'd say we'd be odds on favourites but with Kettle in charge anything could happen. My guess is we're in for a difficult afternoon.

Why on earth is this bloke still reffing?

We’ve got no idea unfortunately. 500+ games in the Football League is astounding. He would make a mess of a kids 7-a-side game.
