Ale and the Vale Podcast

Interesting listen again today. I liked the discussion around the squad cap and youth development in years to come. Made me think of this report from a couple of years back around the improvements made in the vale academy in recent years.

https://www.port-vale.co.uk/news/2019/july/academy-productivity/

I know this is from 2019, but definitely seems even pre Carol, there is good work going on, that hopefully produce more players to the 1st team, if they don't get poached by the higher Cat academies.

The Tranmere review is available!

Another defensively inept display from Vale as they slip to a 3-1 defeat to in-form Tranmere to make it 10 defeats in the last 17 league games since the reverse fixture. We cover our game and give our thoughts on individual performances, finishing up with a discussion about how this affects the decision around the managerial appointment. Additional swearing due to the Tranmere commentary!

Available on Apple, Google and Spotify podcasts. And here! https://aleandthevale.podbean.com

I think Stu that more credit should be given to Vaughan for that second. He did what every good striker is taught to do, he’s got himself some space by getting a hand on Conlon to get him off the him in the seconds before the ball comes in. No ones stepped off him, he’s made the space himself with his strength and anticipation. Then it’s a lovely little bit of skill to sent Crookes the other way before scoring. We need someone who can do that in our side.

Brilliant from Bez “if you’re having a co-commentator make sure they haven’t got <ovf censored> Tourette’s”. Right in the middle of his expletive ridden rant about their commentary 😀

Only problem is, we never ever ever in a million years, get or have a Vaughan type striker at Vale. We always get the Aldi version...

I will give some credit to Vaughan (I thought I had!). But he's got way too much time. I went back to have a look at it during HT (and just now)and was disappointed with that. Maybe not that they stepped off him, but neither moved to close down. Sometimes good goals happen (Scunthorpe's goal at home for instance). I just didn't think that in this case, there was nothing we could have done better.

Bezza, was not happy when we recorded. That's why I put the swear warning on when I had to edit!

If you watch Vaughan before the ball comes in, I think what he did well was give Conlon a little cheeky shove to create the time and space for himself. That’s great play. A pity we don’t have clever players like that. He then makes Crookes look an idiot with his touch and movement. Just shows his inexperience vs Vaughan’s experience.

I saw the shove, I'm not sure why neither Conlon or Crookes reacted after that. But there wasn't a lot of movement from them. Vaughan is a class player, exactly the kind of player I'd have loved Vale to bag in the summer with Crookes/Robinson wages. Pope would surely agree!

Flitcroft podcast being recorded and will be out breakfast time tomorrow. I'm excited!

We've had a chat about new Director of Football, David Flitcroft!

Stu, Jonny and Bezza chat through the new position created at Vale Park and what it means for the future of the club. Also discussed is the man himself, David Flitcroft and what he'll bring to the table. We hear some fan views, before discussing what we think it means for the vacant managerial position.

Available on Apple, Google and Spotify podcasts. And here! https://aleandthevale.podbean.com

Listened and enjoyed the podcast!

As you all debate the situation, I wonder if Flitcroft is preparing his SWOT analysis of the club and getting it ready for the board?

The question of whether  it will work, will depend on the mixture and leadership of the board and the personalities within the club. Trying to embed the strategies across the club will be an interesting but exciting venture.

The sting out of the boundaries / roles and responsibilities is crucial to avoid any underlying upset and it must be both well communicated / visualised without any unnecessary management speak.

Maybe this is a five year strategy. At least we have one!

A journey to enjoy.......... let’s see. Hopefully so!

Quick question to bezza , if he had a Ferrari in the garage snd every time he took it out of the garage to drive it , it constantly broke down would he still keep it or get rid ???? ( Ferrari = manny ) emoji23.pngemoji23.pngemoji23.png

Make the car go vegan, the Ferrari can't handle dairy
