Looking at that list, Askey was the 6th longest serving manager in League 2 at the time of his sacking.

Seems that "pitch forks and lit torches" are regularly "out in force" among clubs across the country then, and not just here at Port Vale!........you'd never have thought so, according to some on here who can't wait to shout down anyone that dares to offer a critical opinion, and make out that Vale fans are the most destructive moaners in the League! (that's not a dig at PV1973 specifically, who is one of the better posters on here IMO)

When you consider the time we've had of it since 2003, I think we're a very patient and accepting fanbase.

We've seen more administrations than promotions this century.

One top 6 finish since 1993. ONE. IN 30 YEARS. We've made it past the third round of the FA Cup twice in the same timeframe, and once in the League Cup.

Add in the success that Stoke have enjoyed in the same timeframe.

This is why I get tired of fans being consistently battered. It's been largely horrendous being attached to this football club since 2000, through the fault of many, many frauds, both on and off the pitch.

Give us a bit of slack. The expectation of Vale fans to sit calmly and without grievance as another season goes down the swanny is so confusing to me. Just folk sick of their football team being a shambles.

I tried to work out how many promotions I'd seen in 62 odd years and I think it was 4, Gordon Lee, John McGrath, John Rudge and Micky Adams, so that's every 20 years approx. Ive never seen us be champions and the best of that period was a short spell in the 90's under Rudge.

I could be 88 before we go up again...................................................................................................!!

Snap for me! 54 years of supporting the Vale and 46 grounds visited!

Any manager from Crowley, Flitcroft. Adams for me. I just want effort, passionate players who LEARN from mistakes and improve.

It will be great to see youth added to the squad as we acknowledge players who have given the club good service!

Onwards and upwards I hope! We have the foundations, so as fans, get behind whoever and move forward.

You must have seen more than 4 promotions (albeit with 4 different managers) - Rudge had 3.

I've seen 5 in my 40 years following :- 82/83, 85/86, 88/89, 93/94, 12/13.

Good evening Ale and Vale podcast team! Enjoyed the Boom Boom interview and he is a fine man. My granddaughter sponsored him when he was at the Vale following the departure of the great George Pilkington.

For the future, how about interviewing either Phil Sproson, Ray Williams or Mike Cullerton, being ex players, a bit controversial with their commentaries and all great Vale players?

Thanks for the suggestions! We'll look into those! We've got a few lined up, so it would be good to add these to the list.

The Tranmere preview is up!

First up the weekly news. New signings, players back in the squad and the ongoing manager search are all on the menu for this week. Then it's into a Tranmere preview up have picked up massively since their trip to Vale Park in November. It's going to be a tough game, can we pull of an upset?

Enjoyed that interview, it’s always good hearing from players within that squad. Brutal with the question that lead him to talk about breaking that lads leg, it must have been a terrible moment for him that day.

These have and continue to be excellent (bar the Mills7). Yatesy’s double episode including the Gary Roberts stuff was laugh out loud time. Will catch the preview shortly and pick up Boom later but it’s a great listen.

The ex player/ ex manager stuff needs a bit of balance I suppose as there’s only so many times Gannon got off the  bus. Maybe try Smurf😀
