If Proctor and Wilson are still gonna be injured for most of Jan then obviously we need goals, but with Hughes in the side in 12/13 we went from contenders to win the league to barely scraping 3rd so I'm not sure he's the best example.

Its often said this that we spent in January and signed players to get us over the line but our form actually was poorer the second half of the season, we only won 4 of our last 16 games so is maybe a bit of a myth.

What's your best moment of the season?

Has to be the injury time against Orient and Proctor's winner, was the first win I had seen live in 20 months and felt a ghost had bee laid to rest from Tranmere last season... until we played Sutton days later anyway!

What's the worst?

Walsall was bad... but it was that bad I could be angry about it, Oldham for me was worse, they were absolute dross and we should of been way out of sight and likely would have been had it been for any fit strikers! Felt a mugging and the defending was terrible but you know its bad when their fans rather than gloat were messaging on twitter suggesting we call crime watch!

What do Vale need to do in January to get promoted?

Dominant centre half who's solid in the air, I always bang on about Piergianni but he's exactly the type I would love to have! Another striker is a must to cover for injuries, if greedy maybe two of them, we cant afford to be in this situation again if we are to challenge.

Good shouts all of them. Would love to see us get Piergianni, I wonder if we could pinch him.

Best

Forest Green nowhere near as emotional as Orient but pivotal in finally getting the season going

Worst

Walsall.  Not just because it was them, but what on earth was that performance about. So out of character.

To get promotion

Purse and Hughes equivalent.  Not convinced by either Legge or Martin.

Maybe a Championship striker on loan in the mould of Tyler Walker under calamity Brown

The Walsall game was so strange. I was so disappointed.

I think Legge will leave in January. I don't think he's sticking around to be in and out of the side. It'll be interesting to see what type of CB we do go for in the window. Dominant in the air, or a more agile player to play one of the outside CB positions.

Jonny mentioned Amond on the pod last night as a possibility for striker. I'm not keen on him, but they will almost certainly look to replace Lloyd in January and I don't think they'll skimp on getting the right person.

That wasn't because of Hughes though.

Pope was scoring at such a ludicrous rate (I think 20 in his first 21) that he was on for a 45 goal season and would have shattered records. It wasn't sustainable and Micky knew it. Pope was going to dip, and he did, before pulling it back vs Cheltenham.

Add to that, JMW and Vincent were in the form of their careers; they'd never played as well as that before (or since) and the prospect of it continuing for 46 games was impossible.

We needed someone to come in and guarantee 1 in 2, adding a bit of promotion experience to the side. If we hadn't got Hughes in, Pope's dip still would have occurred as he simply wasn't going to keep scoring at that level, and we'd have had no reliable other options.

Pope's never really scored goals as part of a front two, always ended up being the foil for the likes of ALF, Vaughan and Rico, so you can't really use those seasons as evidence he couldn't keep up his goalscoring in 12/13. He'd finally been given license to take up goalscoring positions unchallenged and I see no reason why that couldn't continue to equal goals.

According to Hughes he was a Smurf signing, not an Adams one so that doesn't really support the idea that Adams felt Pope couldn't keep up his scoring form. I've no read Adams' book though.

Pope was never going to carry on scoring at that rate. He would have finished with 45 in 46. It just wouldn't have happened. It would have smashed every record this century. He was a good striker but not that good.

31 in 46 is still an absolutely ludicrous record. We couldn't continue to rely on his form post January.

No game, so but we still want to record so here’s your chance to ‘Ask Us Anything’. Get your questions in by 9pm tonight and we’ll add them to the list and see how many we get through!

Does anyone know where my dad can get a good quality carpet fitted at a reasonable price?

How did Bezza get the RS gig, and how did he manage to avoid swearing on air?

Are these postponements helping or hurting us?

Is DC too wedded to five at the back? Like JA was with 4-3-3?

Who was our best signing?

Does Jake Taylor have a future at PV?

Why was Whitehead recalled?

Do we expect to lose any in Jan?

Where  should we be looking to recruit in Jan?

Hi everyone, looooooooooong time since I’ve posted here 😬

I was just sat here thinking how many hours over 2021 I’ve listened to this pod… a lot! I fancied saying thanks to Stu, Bezza and Jonny by getting ‘em an ale.  If you wanted to join me in getting them a pint in January (or when Stu’s next over), feel free to throw a couple of quid into the pot 🍻
